“SHAME On You YANKEES!!!! (DTS Podcast – #69)

You might be giving the Yankees a pass today, but I’m certainly not!!

They should have beaten the Astros in the ALCS.

They should be playing in the World Series.

But, they are not.

Because they played like poop.

Period.

See ya!

Welcome To New York Big Fella!!

Would anyone care for a Gatorade bath??

NO?!

I bet Giancarlo Stanton would disagree with you on that one.

Walk-Off In Pinstripes!!

The New York Yankees took their 2nd consecutive game off of the Seattle Mariners in as many days. Tuesday night was an easy 7-2 victory. Wednesday, however, came in the form of an epic comeback:

(Watch the entire video)

Wednesday’s game was a tale of two halves. Heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, the Yankees trailed 5-0. It was all pinstripes from there on in:

An Aaron Judge 2-r.b.i. single in the 5th. A Didi Gregorius sacrifice fly in the 7th. A monstrous Gary Sanchez 2-run home run in the 8th. And an absolute rocket walk-off home run by Giancarlo Stanton in the 9th.

7-5.

Go watch Stanton’s home run again. Check out the pure elation exuded immediately following the stratospheric blast!! AWESOME. And of course, an otherwise odd occurrence, the infamous Gatorade bath. Because nothing says job well done like getting drenched in an ant farm’s dream vacation.

gatorade bath

Maybe this “Yankee Moment” will finally get spoiled Yankee fans off Stanton’s back. I’m the biggest Yankee fan I know, but sometimes I want to gently place my fist between certain Yankee fans’ eyeballs.

He’s on pace for 41 home runs this season….

Pack Your Bags Sir

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Charlotte Hornets

Dwight Howard is on the move — again.

Wednesday morning, the Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets agreed to a trade:

Hornets Receive:

Timofey Mozgov and two 2nd round picks in tonight’s NBA Draft (40th and 45th picks)

Nets Receive:

Dwight Howard

On the surface this trade seems wildly lopsided. Despite Howard’s poo-poo attitude, he’s still a walking double-double who adds nearly two blocks every night. However, Howard rubs EVERYONE the wrong way, EVERYWHERE he plays. There’s a reason a potential (relax, I said potential) Hall of Fame talent will soon play on his 6th team in 15 seasons.

On the other hand, the Hornets cleared salary cap space for the upcoming season. Howard was due to make nearly $24 million in 2018 opposed to Mozgov’s $16 million.

I still can’t believe someone (the Lakers) signed Timofey freakin’ Mozgov to a 4-year, $64 million contract.

stupid

And the Nets will clear salary cap space beyond this year, as Howard’s astronomical contract comes off the books at the end of this season. Slowly, the Nets are becoming the most attractive place to play — in New York.

Are you dumb enough to think A WALK-OFF HOME RUN MAKES Giancarlo Stanton a “Yankee”?!

It’s Nice To Know Athletes Are Human TOO

They’re human!!

Watching professional golf is interesting — to some. Some find it boring. Some think, “ehh, that’s no big deal, I could do that!” And some, or most, avoid it all together.

Whether you like, love, or hate golf, you should appreciate how talented professional golfers are. For anyone who’s played golf, understanding and amazement is in order. And that’s what made Thursday’s opening round at the U.S. Open so much fun to watch.

While I don’t actively root for golfers to play poorly, I enjoy watching them look human, mortal. When a professional golfer, who qualified for the U.S. Open, shoots a 92, I feel better about my golf game. It’s true!!

scott gregory

And yes, that part’s real. Someone shot a 92 Thursday at Shinnecock Hills. That someone would be Scott Gregory (as pictured above). Gregory (23), from England, became the 1st golfer since 2002 to shoot a round in the 90s at the U.S. Open. In Gregory’s defense, Shinnecock was playing REALLY tough Thursday. The four co-leaders, including Dustin Johnson, stand at just -1. Notables like defending champion Brooks Koepka (+5), Bubba Watson (+7), Phil Mickelson (+7), Jordan Spieth (+8), Tiger Woods (+8), Jason Day (+9), and Rory McIlroy (+10) all struggled tremendously.

The top-10 golfers in the world combined to shoot 52-over par Thursday.

Struggled is the understatement of the century. Those scores are putrid. With the field struggling mightily, it’ll be interesting to see where the cut lands, and who will be on the wrong side of it.

____________________________________________________________________________

I know, I know, it’s just the Tampa Bay Rays, but a win, is a win. The Yankees continued their strong play Thursday with a 4-3 victory, and have now won 11-of-their-last-14 games. And while many expected the big bats of Sanchez and Stanton to carry this Yankee lineup, it’s the youth movement of Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar, and Aaron Judge doing the heavy lifting.

gleyber torres

Yes, the Yankees need a (good) starting pitcher. But for “experts” to suggest they should include Gleyber Torres in a trade, is not only preposterous, it’s a fireable offense. Imagine if the Yankees traded Derek Jeter in 1996. The entire landscape of my childhood would be different. But more importantly, the five World Series victories from ’96 to ’09 may have never happened. Don’t look at me like I’m crazy! That’s the kind of talent we’re talking about here.

Since Torres’ call-up (April 22nd), he’s been the Yankees’ best hitter. He’s hit 13 home runs with 33 r.b.i, while hitting .295. He has two walk-off hits, and is the sole reason they pulled off another victory Thursday.

(the magic happens at 50 seconds)

Would you trade Gleyber Torres?? If you are insane enough to say yes, please stay away from my comment section. Thanks!

I’m Sure You Won’t Regret This For The Rest Of Your Life….

How did you sleep last night??

I bet you slept better than James Neal.

“You Gotta Dunk That S***!!”

Neal, who plays left wing for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, missed what can only be categorized as THE MOST WIDE-OPEN SHOT IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL Monday night. The Golden Knights were in the nation’s capital, looking to even up the Stanley Cup Finals at two games a piece. And with 15:31 to play in the 1st period, Neal had a chance to set the tone.

Instead, he did this:

Neal has scored 294 goals in his career, none would have been easier than this. To think he’s not replaying this opportunity in his head over and over and over again is naïve. If the Golden Knights fail to come back from a 3-1 series deficit, Neal will likely join Terry Rozier in that dark video room (accompanied by scotch of course).

If I could say just one thing to Neal….

dunk that

The rest, as they say, is history. The Washington Capitals would score three 1st period goals en route to a 6-2 whoopin’ of the Golden Knights. Evgeny Kuznetsov finished with four assists, becoming just the 4th player to have four assists in a single Stanley Cup Finals game.

The Golden Knights will try to continue their Cinderella story with a victory in game 5, in Las Vegas, Thursday @ 8:00 P.M. EST. You can catch all the action on NBC.

“The Catch”

The_Catch,_Dwight_Clark,_S_F,_Ca__1981

Dwight Clark, former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, passed away Monday at the age of 61. Clark who was diagnosed with ALS in 2015, died in his Montana home surrounded by loved ones according to his wife, Kelly Clark.

Clark is best known for “The Catch”, one of the most memorable plays in NFL history. “The Catch” led the 49ers past the Dallas Cowboys in the 1981 NFC Championship Game (01/10/1982). This sparked the 49ers’ dynasty in the 80s, as they won four Super Bowls in nine years.

The 49ers held “Dwight Clark Day” last season at an October 22nd game against the Dallas Cowboys. This would be his final appearance in front of a stadium filled with 49ers’ fans. Clark addressed the crowd, ownership, his family and more than 40 teammates from a Levi’s Stadium suite. That day, he said he simply wanted one more chance to be around the team he loved.

Giancarlo Stanton Vs. Mike Fiers

mike fiers

New York Yankees’ slugger, Giancarlo Stanton, doesn’t like Mike Fiers. Fiers nearly ended his career in 2014….

And Monday, in the 2nd game of a doubleheader, Fiers plunked Stanton again….

Stanton wasn’t overjoyed. Not even a quarter of his way to 1st base, Stanton had a few choice words for Fiers. Benches half-cleared, but nothing real happened. And in the top of the 6th inning, Stanton hit an ABSOLUTE BOMB off Fiers, to the tune of 456 feet. Some, would call it revenge. Stanton took it a step further with an epic bat-flip, and an extra special “point” in Fiers’ direction as he crossed home plate. I’m a Yankee fan through and through, but this was a pretty sad display of machismo by Mr. Stanton.

Just When You Thought Your Tuesday Couldn’t Get Any Better….

Tuesday is my favorite day of the week.

Saturdays and Sundays are great, but Tuesdays never fail to turn that frown upside down. This past Tuesday, aka yesterday, provided a historic performance, a heated rivalry, and the dumbest trade ever. See, I told you Tuesdays are awesome!!

James Paxton Throws No-Hitter

james paxton

“Oh Canada, our home and native land…”

No, I’m not Canadian, but James Paxton is. Paxton, born in Ladner, British Columbia, made Canadian MLB history Tuesday night. He became the 1st Canadian born pitcher to throw a no-hitter — in Canada. Paxton’s Seattle Mariners kicked off a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night. The Mariners won 5-0.

Paxton cruised through the Blue Jays’ lineup, needing just 99 pitches to complete his no-hitter. He also hit 100 m.p.h. in the bottom of the ninth inning. Of course, as in virtually any no-hitter, it can’t be done without some help from friends. Mariners’ third baseman, Kyle Seager, made an outstanding diving play with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve Paxton’s no-hitter. Following the game, Paxton acknowledged, and appreciated, his teammates behind him:

“What a defense tonight. That was amazing. Those guys were making every play,” Paxton said.

Fat, I Mean, Matt Harvey Traded

giphy

I’m confused. I don’t understand why anyone would TRADE FOR Matt Harvey. I’d have understood signing him to a Minor League deal, assuming no risk, but trading a real-life human being for that pile of flab makes NO SENSE!! But hey, it’s the Cincinnati Reds. Who am I to second guess such a stellar organization?!

This trade is an absolute steal for the New York Mets. Highway robbery. The Mets will receive catcher, Devin Mesoraco, as well as cash in the trade. The Reds will also take on the entirety of Harvey’s $5,788,978 salary. WILD!! While Mesoraco’s career has been sidetracked due to injury, many, many injuries, at 29 years old there’s the sliiiightest chance he returns to the 25 home run, 80 r.b.i. days of 2014.

The funniest part: The Mets are playing the Reds, so Mesoraco literally walked from one dugout to the other, and joined his new team. He even pinch hit in the ninth inning, striking out in a 7-2 loss by the Mets.

Yankees Brought Winning Ways To Heated Rivalry

Remember when idiots booed Giancarlo Stanton???? I wonder what they did Tuesday night when he hit not one, but two home runs against the Boston Red Sox….

That 1st home run….Have you ever seen a baseball leave the field of play faster?!

Heading into a three-game series with the Red Sox, the red hot Yankees stood just one game behind their enemy. But after winning their 16th-out-of-17 (3-2), the Yankees are tied (25-10) with the Red Sox. Divisions aren’t won in May, but it would be nice to watch the Red Sox get swept!!

Luis Severino continued his dominance, striking out 11 in six strong innings. And Aaron Judge’s r.b.i. single in the bottom of the seventh inning turned out to be the winning run. Hooray beer!! The Yankees will look to continue their winning ways Wednesday night when Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound against Rick Porcello. Watch the Yankees beat down the Red Sox @ 7:00 P.M. EST on ESPN.

Home Runs Galore!!!!

Nowadays, there’s a National Day for everything:

National Bring Your Kid To Work Day. National Siblings Day. National Pizza Day. The list goes on, and on, and on.

Well, no one told me Wednesday was National Hit Multiple Home Runs Day.

I must have missed that memo.

Four gentleman took to the streets with their baseball bats and decided one wasn’t enough. It’s like a slice of pizza. One is NEVER enough!

Mookie Betts

Mookie Betts returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday after a four day hiatus. Betts tweaked his hamstring during Saturday’s game, and the Red Sox, as always, were extra cautious with their star outfielder. Betts wasted no time reinserting himself into the AL MVP conversation. Betts cranked not one, not two, but three home runs against the Kansas City Royals. The Red Sox would need every last home run, as they eked out a 5-4 victory, remaining atop the AL East.

Edwin Encarnacion

Edwin Encarnacion has gotten off to an extremely slow start this season. Prior to Wednesday’s matinee, Encarnacion was hitting a pathetic .171. After Wednesday’s three home run, six rbi performance, Encarnacion is finally heading in the right direction. Encarnacion accounted for half of his teams runs, as the Cleveland Indians routed the Texas Rangers 12-4. Speaking of slumping power hitters, Wednesday’s power surge couldn’t have come at a better time for the newest member of the New York Yankees….

Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton may be under the most pressure of any athlete in New York. While donning pinstripes is the ultimate baseball honor, Yankee Nation can become a player’s worst nightmare in a hurry. Stanton found that out in his FIRST game at Yankee Stadium, carrying ‘boo birds’ back to the dugout. Yankee fans are already tired of watching Stanton swing and miss. With 47 strikeouts in just 121 at bats, Yankee fans have been anxiously awaiting the reigning NL MVP to step up to the plate. Well, ask, and you shall receive. Stanton went 3-for-4, mashing home runs in consecutive at bats Wednesday night. He accounted for all of the Yankees’ runs, en route to another 4-0 victory over the Houston Astros.

Nolan Arenado

Nolan Arenado and slump don’t often collide in the same sentence. And this season is no different. At this point, Arenado should change his middle name to ‘The RBI Man’. Over the past three seasons (combined), Arenado has 48 more rbi than the next closest run producer, Edwin Encarnacion (393-345). That’s impressive! And Wednesday, he did what he does. Two home runs, and five rbi, leading his team to an 11-2 whoopin’ of the Chicago Cubs.

Do you, like chicks, dig the long ball???? If you do, tell me about your home run obsession in the comment section below.

Losing Breeds Champions

Losing is a good thing.

Wait, that didn’t come out right. Losing, can be a good thing, if used for fuel to light a fire under your rear end. When facing adversity, some teams, or individuals, curl up (for some reason it’s always in a corner) into the fetal position while others stand up and fight. The question is: When you’re backed into a corner, who are you??

LeBron James

lebron james playoffs

Adversity in the first round of the playoffs and LeBron James haven’t often collided in the same sentence. LeBron’s loss Sunday was his first in game one, of round one, in his career. THAT’S INSANE!!

LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers will bounce back. There’s no doubt. By how much?? We’ll get there, relax.

The Cavaliers were 8-34 from three-point range in game one. That won’t happen again.

Kevin Love scored just nine points. That won’t happen again.

The Cavaliers scored 15 points or less in two quarters. That won’t happen again.

And LeBron James scored ZERO points in the first quarter (on one FG attempt). That won’t happen again.

Watch LeBron James do ‘Superman’ things  tonight @ 7:00 P.M. EST on TNT.

Score Prediction: Cavaliers 110, Pacers 97

New York Yankees

MLB: Spring Training-Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees

Watching the New York Yankees play baseball Tuesday evening, at 6:35 p.m.?!, was one of the most excruciating experiences of my life. No, I’m not overreacting. And no, I’m not panicking in April. But yes, I’m unbelievably disappointed in a 9-1 loss to the MIAMI MARLINS!!

Giancarlo Stanton finished yet another game 0-4 with 2 strikeouts, bringing his batting average to a stellar .167. Stanton’s been awful. Terrible. Horrid. But, he can’t get worse. Also, in MLB, established players always play to the back of their baseball card.

.240, 27 home runs, and 90 r.b.i. is on the way.

Tuesday’s disaster sent pain waves throughout Yankee Nation for a multitude of reasons:

1.) Heading into Monday, the Miami Marlins were tied with the 3rd worst record in baseball (4-12).

2.) The Yankees pummeled the Marlins 12-1 on Monday.

3.) The Yankees were no-hit through 4 1/3 innings by Jarlin Garcia, and finished with just 1 run on 4 hits (Garcia pitched 10 1/3 innings of consecutive no-hit baseball).

4.) Masahiro Tanaka was painstakingly bad. Tanaka has now given up 6 earned runs in consecutive starts.

Again, panic is not allowed in my house in April. If the Yankees are dealing with this many injuries, and continue playing this way, through June, we’ll panic together.

Until then, let’s hope the Yankees are prepared to fight their way out of a corner.

Yankee fans, are you panicking?? If so, calm down, then pour your heart out in the comment section below.

Raucous Rivalry Renewed!!

Greatest Rivalry In Sports

The hate is real. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox don’t like each other. And those feelings resurfaced Wednesday night. After Tyler Wade dropped down a bunt in the 3rd inning, Tyler Austin slid into 2nd base, trying to beat the throw. Austin came into 2nd base hard, intentionally sliding into Red Sox shortstop, Brock Holt’s leg. While Austin did clip the back of Holt’s leg, it wasn’t bench clearing brawl worthy.

As you can see, no punches were thrown, just choice words. But then, in the 7th inning, Joe Kelly retaliated, plunking Austin in the back. Austin wasn’t a happy camper:

Four ejections later, rivalry renewed.

My favorite part of this was Brock Holt’s thought process (referring to Judge and Stanton) during the brawl. “Yeah, I’m not trying to get involved with any of those guys,” Holt said. “I mean, not just those two. They have a pretty big team over there.”

Way to have your team’s back Brock!!

p.s. The Yankees put up 4 runs on David Price in the 1st inning, knocking him out of the game. The Yankees own him. After the dust settled, the Yankees would hang on, for a much needed, 10-7 victory.

Will The Mets Ever Lose Again?!

MLB: New York Mets at Miami Marlins

Miami Marlins’ pitcher, Jarlin Garcia, will have to wait to allow his 1st hit as a starter. He’ll also have to wait for his first win as a starter.

The New York Mets are riding an 8-game winning streak, following their 4-1 victory over the Marlins. The Mets, no offense fans, had no business winning this game. Marlins manager, Don Mattingly, lost this game (intentionally?). Donnie Baseball did something that should be illegal. He pulled his starting pitcher with a NO HITTER THROUGH SIX INNINGS (77 pitches)!!!!

WHAT THE WHAT?!?!

That makes no sense. That’s not baseball. That’s sabotage.

If Garcia was a rookie, making his 1st appearance in a MLB game, I’d almost understand. But this, wasn’t that. Garcia appeared in 68 games in 2017 (as a reliever). His arm could have handled 30-40 more pitches in an attempt at MLB’s 297th no hitter.

Be ashamed Don Mattingly. Be very ashamed.

Could New York sports teams possibly provide us with more news??

Yes. Yes they could.

With Every Valley, A Peak

It’s EARLY.

Not just in the morning but in the MLB season.

Teams off to a ‘hot’ start will regress, and teams who can’t buy a win will do just that. It’s baseball. It’s 162 games. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. The instantaneous reaction generation can’t handle these moments.

On Monday, the Yankees could be the best team in MLB history.

And on Tuesday, they could be the biggest disappointment the world has ever seen.

Of course, a 14-1 loss, to a division rival, is never beneficial, but game 1 of 19 between the Red Sox and Yankees doesn’t determine the AL East.

Seriously though, letting the Red Sox drop a 9-spot in the 6th inning is not a recipe for success. Neither is starting Shane Robinson in centerfield, but that’s a different story….

Red Sox

mookie betts

Subjectively, I hate their guts. Objectively, they’re a really solid team. Those who wrote the Red Sox off, and crowned the Yankees AL East champs in March, were sorely mistaken. The Red Sox have been a well run organization since forever. Despite most Yankee fans’ distorted memories, the Red Sox have won the AL East the past 2 years (and 3 out of the last 5). This division will be hard fought all season (especially if David Price’s early season resurrection is real).

Yankees

stanton 4

Yes, I’m a Yankee fan. I want them to win every game. However, I don’t fit in with the typical Yankee fan. While I’ve been spoiled with their success throughout my life (I grew up in the 90s and early 2000s), I understand baseball. I understand reality.

They aren’t going to go 162-0. They may not play November baseball. And they aren’t the best lineup ever constructed. They will, however, level out. They’ll get healthy. They’ll win approximately 90 games. And they’ll make the playoffs.

Everyone calm down.

_________________________________________________________________________________

The folklore of ‘Sister Jean’ continues. After famously assisting Loyola-Chicago’s men’s basketball team to the Final Four, she’s moved on to baseball. Sister Jean was invited to throw out the 1st pitch at Tuesday’s, Chicago Cubs’ home-opener.

Not bad Sister Jean, not bad.

Unfortunately, the Cubs weren’t able to harness Sister Jean’s winning power, as they fell 8-5 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have gotten off to a red hot start (8-2), while the Cubs have struggled (5-5). The Pirates have scored 66 runs through their 1st 10 games, the most since 1923. The Cubs, however, played their 1st 9 games on the road, and are without all-star, 1st baseman, Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo landed on the 10-day DL Tuesday with back tightness.

Expect the Pirates to cool off and the Cubs to grab hold of the division in the near future.

The Pudgy-Faced Assassin Struck GREEN!!

Patrick Reed won the Masters.

WHO the hell is Patrick Reed?!

The pudgy-faced assassin. I think we’ll call him that.

patrick reed

Patrick Reed is 27 years old (despite looking like he’s 12). He’s married with two children and resides in Texas. Entering the Masters, Reed was the 24th ranked golfer in the world. At -14, Reed took a 3-stroke lead into Sunday, fighting off the likes of Rory McIlroy (-11), Rickie Fowler (-9), and Jordan Spieth (-5).

Despite coming up short, Jordan Spieth’s round Sunday was the most impressive performance of the tournament. A final round 64 (-8) is other worldly.

Sunday at the Masters, usually reserved for names tumbling down the leaderboard, saw a record breaking 7 of the top-20 finishers post rounds of 67 or better. With virtually everyone around him charging up the leaderboard, Reed remained steady, posting a safe, conservative -1 (71). Needing a par at the last, Reed showed nerves of steel, hitting his drive right down the middle. He then hit the approach shot of his life, leaving 20-feet, and 2 putts, to win the Masters.

This was Reed’s 1st Major victory. And the Masters has now seen five consecutive 1st time winners. Life after Tiger. No no, I know Tiger is back. And played in this tournament. But he didn’t really play in this tournament….

________________________________________________________________________________

stanton 3

And then, there was baseball.

The New York Yankees lost to the Baltimore Orioles in tragic fashion Sunday afternoon (8-7 F/12). After being spotted a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning, Yankees’ starter, Jordan Montgomery, decided he didn’t want it to be his day either. Montgomery failed to get out of the 5th inning, giving up 4 runs. Fast forward to the 12th inning….

After a walk and 2 consecutive singles, the Orioles grabbed an 8-7 lead in the top of the 12th inning. To the bottom of the 12th we go….

Austin Romine, who had the game of his life, led off the inning with a walk. With Tyler Wade (who’s really fast) and Gary Sanchez (who plays catcher) still on the bench, it’s inexplicable that Aaron Boone didn’t pinch run for Romine. Regardless, the Yankees loaded the bases on another walk and an error by Orioles’ closer, Brad Brach.

Yup, the Yankees had bases loaded, with no one out, and DID NOT SCORE!!!!

Because nothing says clutch like an Aaron Judge, 1-2-5 double-play, ground out. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Giancarlo Stanton followed it up with his 2nd FIVE STRIKEOUT GAME of the season. Stanton was the only Yankee who didn’t record a hit Sunday going an impressive 0-7.

Stanton will be fine, but New York and Miami are two different animals, aren’t they????
