A Food Coma With A Side Of Football — Now That’s Thanksgiving!!

chargers

I’m full!!

With another successful Thanksgiving in the books, it’s time to review the amount of calories I consumed. I’ll give you a hint, it’s more than any human being should consume in a week. Turkey, stuffing, gravy (oh the gravy), pumpkin pie, and apple pie. All fantastic. All delicious. All useless without a side of football.

Vikings Vs. Lions

The Detroit Lions typically play well on Thanksgiving, as they had won their past 4 Turkey Day matchups. Unfortunately, they ran into a Minnesota Vikings team who is playing as well as anyone in the league. In taking down the Lions (30-23), the Vikings extended their winning streak to 7 games. Adam Thielen is playing at an elite level at the wide receiver position, topping 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. Case Keenum is doing his best Peyton Manning impersonation, averaging 288.5 yards and 2.25 touchdowns per game over his past 4 games.

The question is, will Keenum be able to duplicate this success come January??

Chargers Vs. Cowboys

If you want to know how the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving went, just look at Philip Rivers’ stat line:

27 for 33 for 434 yards and 3 touchdowns.

That’s a lot of yards. The Cowboys stink!! After a 28-6 drubbing from the Chargers yesterday, the Cowboys have now lost by 20 or more points in 3 consecutive games (giving up 70 combined points). I know Ezekiel Elliot’s worth (on a football field), but last time I checked, he doesn’t play defense.

And can all those Dak Prescott supporters admit he’s simply not that good?! The writers who had Dak Prescott #14 on NFL.com’s preseason player rankings should be ashamed of themselves. Dak is a game manager who needs an elite offensive line to succeed. He’s not a quarterback who can carry his team across the finish line.

Redskins Vs. Giants

The New York Giants are really bad at football.

No, that’s not a revelation, it just rolls off the tongue really nicely. Listen, the Giants’ season has been lost for months now, but at least their defense is trying (again). They’ve only given up 32 total points in their last 2 games, squeezing in a 6-quarter stretch without giving up a touchdown. But the team as a whole is a disaster.

The Giants’ franchise has made numerous head scratching decisions over the past few seasons, but leaving Eli Manning at quarterback, at 2-9, may take the cake. This is not a direct shot at Eli (even though I’ve never been a big fan of his work), rather an opportunity to highlight the ineptitude of the Giants’ front office. They have Davis Webb, a 3rd round pick, waiting in the wings. And while the Giants should start Webb in every game the rest of the way, for the future of the franchise, they won’t. They’d rather preserve a meaningless, games started streak for Eli Manning. Yes, starting 209 games is impressive, but it doesn’t help the 2018 or 2019 New York Giants.

Falcons Win NFC Showdown Thanks To Seahawks’ Shortcomings

Luke Willson

“You’re Killing me Petey!!”

Picture this….

There’s 7 seconds left in the 1st half, and you’re on your opponents’ 17-yard line. You’ve been effectively outplayed but have a chance to cut the lead to 4 at the half with a 35-yard field goal. Insteaddddd, you try a trick play that’s so poorly planned my 10 year old daughter could have sniffed it out. Watch ineptitude at its finest by clicking here.

Despite Pete Carroll’s in-game blunders, Monday night provided a rather entertaining football game. Matt Ryan is starting to look like Matt Ryan again, Jimmy Graham is the best red zone target known to man, and Russell Wilson is wildly underrated.

Matty Ice

While only throwing for 195 yards, Matt Ryan played an efficient game: 2 touchdowns and no interceptions on 66.6% passing. He led his Falcons to touchdowns on their first 2 drives, opening up a 14-0 lead. Ryan has now thrown multiple touchdowns in 4 consecutive games, as the Falcons have won 3 of their last 4. While he’s not playing like 2016 MVP Matt Ryan, he’s steering the Falcons in the right direction at the right time.

Jimmy Graham

Jimmy Graham is the best red zone target in the NFL. I’m glad, not only for my fantasy team, but for Russell Wilson for figuring that out. Graham now has 7 touchdowns in his last 6 games. Graham had just 6 touchdowns all of last year. As long as Mr. 6’7″, 265 lbs. is on the field, I’d continue feeding him. Graham also has 28 targets over the last 3 weeks. Wicked smart Russell….

Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson is tremendous. I know he threw an interception. And lost a fumble. And lost the game. But, he’s singlehandedly keeping his team in games every week. Wilson lines up behind the worst offensive line in football, and outside of himself (7 rushes for 86 yards and a touchdown), has the worst rushing attack in the NFL. His ability to extend plays with his legs is his best attribute, but he’s also smart. You won’t see Wilson getting lit up by a linebacker as he tries to gain an extra yard. Instead, he’ll veer out of bounds or slide.

Despite shooting themselves in the foot, the Seahawks stared a game-tying, 52-yard field goal attempt in the face with 7 seconds left. Blair Walsh hit it straight, but came up just short. And this all important NFC showdown went to the Falcons; 34-31. The Seahawks and Falcons now both reside at 6-4, with the Falcons holding down the 2nd Wild Card spot — for now.

Did you watch Monday Night Football?? Does Pete Carroll deserve all the blame for this loss?? Tell me in the comment section below.

Patriots Take Their Talents South Of The Border

Mexico Patriots Raiders Football

Hola NFL!

Bienvenidos a Mexico!

On Sunday, the people of Mexico, welcomed the NFL with open arms. For the 2nd consecutive season, a November matchup was slated to be played in Estadio Azteca (a famed soccer stadium in the heart of Mexico City). Last season, the Oakland Raiders beat the Houston Texans 27-20. This season, Los Raiders would return to battle the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, the Raiders left their battle at home. The Patriots jumped out to a slight advantage. Because nothing says competitive like 30 unanswered points!! The Patriots thought it’d be a good idea to make the score look respectable, so they let the Raiders score a touchdown in the 4th quarter.

La gente de Mexico got to see the best the NFL has to offer; the New England Patriots. Although the words hate and Patriots often collide in the same sentence in my household, the word respect is usually mixed in as well.

Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all-time.

And it’s not even that close.

Tom Brady’s afternoon in la Ciudad de Mexico: 30-37, 339 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions

Tom Brady, at 40 years old, is still the best quarterback in the NFL. After a 2-2 start, the Patriots have now won 6 straight games. They’re the best team in the AFC and favorites to represent their conference in the Super Bowl — again. The Patriots will look to follow-up their 33-8 victory over the Raiders with a beat down of the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.

Only one question remains: When will father time catch up to Tom Brady??

__________________________________________________________________________________________

As for the rest of Week 11, blow out or overtime loss, there was no in between.

Giants….Win?!

I’m still not sure how, but the New York Giants beat the Kansas City Chiefs (12-9). Being the ugliest game of the year didn’t hurt, but the Giants have no business winning football games. The Giants scored the game’s lone touchdown in the 2nd quarter on an Orleans Darkwa run. In typical G-Men fashion, Aldrick Rosas missed the extra point. They actually could have won this game handily if it weren’t for the dumbest trick play known to man. On the Giants 1st offensive possession, they enjoyed a nearly 7 minute drive, down to the Chiefs’ 18-yard line. They inexplicably thought that was the right place, and time, to let their running back attempt a pass. It’s not like there were 50 mph wind gusts at MetLife Stadium or anything….It’s not Shane Vereen’s fault, but his pass was picked off at the 1-yard line.

Luckily for the Giants, they won the turnover battle (3-1), and won their 2nd game of the year. They’ll get back to their losing ways when they take on the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving.

What A Comeback!!

What looked like the upset of the week, turned into the game of the week. Midway through the 3rd quarter, the Washington Redskins jumped out to a 24-13 lead over the New Orleans Saints (in New Orleans). The Redskins would extend their lead to 31-16 with just 5:58 to play. Obviously, the Redskins went into a super prevent defense, allowing an easy touchdown in just 3 minutes and 5 seconds (on 9 yards per play). This is the moment that drives me nuts!! Don’t start playing a soft defense because you’re holding a 15-point lead. Continue doing what helped build that lead in the first place.

The Redskins predictably went 3 and out, only burning 1 minute off the clock. 87 yards and 48 seconds later, the Saints brought the game within 2 points. Alvin Kamara successfully converted the 2-point conversion, sending the game to overtime. The Redskins started with the ball in overtime, but that didn’t help matters. They went backwards 10 yards before punting. 2 runs by Mark Ingram was all it took (31 and 20 yards). Will Lutz drove home a 28-yard field goal for the 34-31 victory. And with the win, the Saints became the 1st team in NFL history to win 8 consecutive games after starting a season 0-2.

Smart Move Brandon Beane!!

Brandon Beane is the general manager of the Buffalo Bills, and he is not very bright. Beane replaced Doug Whaley who was unceremoniously fired in April. Just 7 months into the job, Beane thought it would be a good idea to bench his starting quarterback, Tyrod Taylor for rookie quarterback, Nathan Peterman.

How’d that work out for ya?!

Peterman tied a dubious NFL record on Sunday: Most interceptions in his 1st career start (5). He tied Keith Null who set the record for the St. Louis Rams in 2009. Peterman almost assuredly would have broken the record, for he was pulled for Tyrod Taylor just after halftime. Taylor, who should have never been benched in the first place, put up decent numbers. But it was too little, too late, as the Chargers stomped out the Bills 54-24!!

Celtics D Stifles Warriors, Headline Busy Thursday Night

jaylen brown

You’ve done it again Thursday.

My thumb was reacquainted with the ‘Prev Ch’ button. Football to basketball, basketball to football, NFL Network and TNT got my ratings Thursday night (until I fell asleep on the couch). To the hardwood we go….

NBA Finals Preview??

Thursday’s nights matchup between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors pinned the 2 best records in the NBA against each other. The Warriors were winners of 7 straight, as they travelled to Beantown to take on the red hot Celtics (winners of 13 straight).

The Warriors looked like the Warriors, carrying a 17-point lead past the midway point of the 3rd quarter. Then, Jaylen Brown happened. Over a 49 second span, Brown scored 8 consecutive points. After learning of his best friend’s death just hours prior to tip-off, Brown played inspired basketball (22 points and 7 rebounds). He dedicated his performance to Trevin Steede.

The Celtics didn’t win their 14th straight game because they scored 142 points. They won because they do something that’s very rare in the NBA. The play defense. They held a Warriors team, that’s averaging 117.5 points per game, to 88 points. Unbelievably impressive, but I wouldn’t expect Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to shoot a combined 11 for 43 (25.5%) from the field again — ever.

The Celtics will revel in their 92-88 victory during their day off on Friday. They’ll seek their 15th straight win on Saturday against the hapless Atlanta Hawks (3-12).

A 4th Quarter To Forget

Marcus Mariota let’s it fly. Rishard Matthews comes down with the deep bomb, scampering 75-yards for a touchdown. That’s one way to start the 2nd half. 16-7 became 16-14 in the blink of an eye. And just like that, we had a football game on our hands. Or so we thought. The Titans final 3 possessions: punt, interception, interception. That, plus Antonio Brown’s 3-touchdown night, put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter. 17 unanswered points brought the totality of destruction to 40-17.

The Steelers now own an AFC best record; 8-2. That is, until the New England Patriots play on Sunday. As for the Titans, they drop to 6-4, leaving the door wide open for the Jacksonville Jaguars to grab an AFC South division lead.

You Scored How Many Points?!

Chris Paul made his return to the court Thursday night. After missing 14 games with a knee injury, Paul played 21 minutes against the Phoenix Suns. Effective minutes I’d call them.

Chris Paul’s Evening: 11 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Paul was merely a pedestrian contributor to the absolute smack down the Rockets laid on the Suns. He was 1 of 7 players to score in double figures, led by James Harden’s 48 points. The Rockets set a franchise record Thursday night, scoring 90 points in the 1st half.

No need to readjust your spectacles. The Houston Rockets scored 90 points in the 1st half. I know the Suns are bad, but that’s absurd. The final score of 142-116 included 6 Rockets’ going a perfect 35 for 35 from the free throw line. Only Clint Capela would miss a free throw (0-3).

Harden, Paul, and company will look to improve on their 12-4 record when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday. Paul will look to ramp up his minutes, while Harden continues his MVP charge.

Yes, That Rotting Smell IS The NFL

NFL: New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers

There was a lot of stink radiating from the NFL this past Sunday.

The NFL is not what it used to be. We can blame rule changes, the most recent CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement), etc. Whatever the main culprit is, the level of play has simply taken a nosedive over the last decade. Here at DaveTalksSports, we enjoy a good list:

Nice Sack, Nice Sack, Nice Sa….Hey, Does Anyone Here Know How To Block?!

8.) I said it the second Ezekiel Elliot was (finally) suspended, “The world is going to recognize Elliot’s worth (on a football field).” One player does not make a football team, but one player can greatly effect a football team. With Elliot’s suspension hanging over the Dallas Cowboys like a black cloud, the rain finally came. And the Cowboys were ill prepared to weather the storm. After taking a 7-0 lead, it was all Falcons the rest of the way. The Falcons would score 27 unanswered points, sacking Dak Prescott 8 times in the process.

So much for having the best offensive line in the NFL.

Does He Know What Color Jersey He’s Wearing????

7.) Tom Savage.

Need I say more?

The Los Angeles Rams continued their winning ways (4 in a row), stomping out the Houston Texans 33-7. Tom Savage showed us, yet again, why he’s not fit to play quarterback at the professional level. Because nothing says victory like a 50% completion percentage and 2 interceptions….

How Is It That You’re Employed?!

6.) Speaking of quarterbacks who don’t belong in the NFL, Brock Osweiler still has a job. To answer your question, I’m not sure. Last time I checked, 18 for 33 with an interception isn’t going to cut it against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. This one got so out of hand (41-16), Brian Hoyer took 9 snaps under center for the Patriots. The Broncos are now losers of 5 straight.

You Embarrass Yourself!!

5.) When the team you’re facing is 2-6, and is without their 2 best players, you should win. But you wouldn’t be the New York Jets. The Jets, looking to get to .500, travelled to Tampa, to take on the Buccaneers. And in predictable fashion, the Jets ‘pooped the bed’. Against a middling Buccaneers defense, the Jets mustered just 3 points. Yes, Josh McCown threw a garbage-time touchdown with 28 seconds left, but that doesn’t count.

My favorite part of the game was the back-to-back interceptions thrown by the 2 most journeymen quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.

The Jets are who we thought they were, only slightly better. While the #1 pick is out of reach, and Jets’ fans should enjoy the young players’ progress, they’re still the good ol’ Jets.

Beat Downs Like This Should Be Illegal

4.) Holy Water Buffalo!! The Buffalo Bills have now been blown out in consecutive weeks. Their week 9 loss to the Jets was bad, but they took LOSS to a whole new level in week 10. 47-10. No need to adjust your glasses, that’s the right score. The Buffalo Bills allowed the New Orleans Saints to come into their house, and rush for 298 yards and 6 touchdowns!!!!

If I can sprinkle some good into this article, the Saints are winners of their last 7. Watch out NFC….

It’s Hard Finding New Ways To Lose EVERY Week

3.) Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the Los Angeles Chargers prove you wrong. Intercepting a Blake Bortles’ pass, with 2 minutes left and a 3-point lead, is usually a recipe for success. Not if you’re the Chargers. ONLY the Chargers can fumble the ball trying to run out the clock. ONLY the Chargers can intercept another Blake Bortles’ pass, seemingly icing the game, but then go 3 and out giving the ball back to the Jaguars. ONLY the Chargers can let the Jaguars gain 36-yards in 47 seconds, allowing their former kicker, Josh Lambo, to kick a game-tying field goal to send the game to overtime. ONLY the Chargers can throw an interception in overtime, leading to a game-winning field goal by the Jaguars. 20-17 F/OT. Yikes!!

The Giants Would Be the Worst Team In the NFL If The Browns Didn’t Exist

2.) The New York Giants season has been filled with turmoil, drama, and dissention. Injuries + a poorly constructed roster + anonymous players ripping their own coach = 1-8. Only a dumpster fire of epic proportions could get blown out by the winless San Francisco 49ers. 31-21 doesn’t do it justice. But hey, Giants’ fans, look at the bright side. The Giants will probably draft a franchise quarterback who will end up in the Hall of Fame. If only the Jets could figure that out….

Oh Cleveland, Poor, Sweet Cleveland….How Could You Be So Stupid?!

1.) Allow me to create imagery. There’s 15 seconds left in the 1st half. It’s 2nd down. And the Cleveland Browns have the ball on the Detroit Lions’ 2-yard line. THE BROWNS HAVE NO TIMEOUTS. The score is inconsequential, but it’s 17-17. If you’re the Browns, what do you do?? My 10-year old daughter knows the answer to this question by the way. You throw the ball twice, while avoiding a sack, in hopes of scoring a touchdown. If you don’t score a touchdown, you kick a field goal. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER DO YOU RUN THE BALL, BECAUSE IF YOU DON’T SCORE, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO RUN ANOTHER PLAY!!!!

So obviously the Browns ran the ball….

The score was still 17-17 at the half. And they lost 38-24.

Which disaster of a football game did you watch on Sunday?? Tell me all about it in the comment section below.

Seahawks Win The Battle, May Lose The War

richard sherman

Thursday Night Football resembled a massacre rather than a football game. Not because one team got blown out, but due to the inordinate amount of injuries sustained in 60-minutes of action Thursday night.

6, yes you heard that right, 6 Seattle Seahawks left the game and did not return:

  • Richard Sherman
  • Duane Brown
  • Jarran Reed
  • C.J. Prosise
  • Sheldon Richardson
  • Frank Clark

Sherman, the Seahawks top cornerback 7 years running, went down in the 3rd quarter with a ruptured achilles. Sherman will have season-ending surgery. The rest of the injured Seahawks are dealing with short-term injuries. If there’s a silver lining here, they’ll be afforded 11 days rest.

It’s literally the only positive to playing on Thursday.

As for the Arizona Cardinals, they lost 3 players as well:

  • D.J. Humphries
  • Tyvon Branch
  • Ifeanyi Momah

After losing Carson Palmer for the season, 2 weeks ago, the Cardinals have tried to lean on their midseason acquisition, Adrian Peterson. Well, 29 yards, a fumble, and a safety later, Adrian Peterson had possibly the worst game of his career. At 4-5, with no serviceable quarterback on the roster, the Cardinals are staring another mediocre season in the face.

Oh yeah, there was a football game played last night. That Vegas is something else, isn’t it?? The Seattle Seahawks were 6-point favorites heading into last night’s game. So, of course, they won 22-16.

Seemingly the entire game was played through the air. Both teams combined for a whopping 89 yards from the running back position. That’s what they call — not good. Russell Wilson, however, is good. Check out his ‘Houdini’ act here. Insane right??

That set up Jimmy Graham’s 2nd touchdown reception of the game. Graham now has 6 touchdowns in his last 5 games. I’m glad Russell Wilson finally realized Graham is the best red zone target IN THE WORLD!! Yes, better thank Gronk. Gronk is amazing, but Graham can actually jump more than 6-inches off the ground….

The Seahawks will hobble onto their home field on November 20th, for a Monday Night Football showdown with the Atlanta Falcons. If you were wondering Russell Wilson’s worth, you’re witnessing it.

Can the Seattle Seahawks overcome the injury bug and make the playoffs?? Post your prediction in the comment section below.

Porzingis Leads 4th Quarter Comeback At The Garden!!

porzingis

It’s a miracle!!

The New York Knicks have a winning record (5-4)!!

We can thank 1 man for that. No, not James Dolan. Not Phil Jackson. Not Jesus.

KRISTAPS PORZINGIS!!

Thanks to the Latvian wonder boy, the Knicks are winners of 5 of their last 6 games. Most notably, a road, blowout win over the Cleveland Cavaliers last Sunday (114-95). While impressive, Porzingis took his early season achievements to new heights last night. Down 12 to the Indiana Pacers entering the 4th quarter, Porzingis put on a show. He scored 17 of his 40 points in the 4th quarter, claiming a 108-101 victory. Yes, you heard that right — 40!!

Porzingis’ Stat-Line: 40 points (15-24), 8 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 1 assist

At the ripe old age of 22, Kristaps Porzingis is carrying the weight of an entire city on his shoulders. And this isn’t any old city. This is the Big Apple. Many have succumb to the pressure of succeeding in New York. Not Porzingis. He’s taken the reigns as the centerpiece of the Post-Melo Knicks, and he’s steering the ship in the right direction. The question is, can the Knicks surround Porzingis with enough talent to compete, and ultimately, stay in New York??

Knowing my Knicks, they’ll figure out how to screw this up. Until then, let’s enjoy Mr. Latvia.

There is little doubt who the best team in the NFL is; The Philadelphia Eagles. As for teams 2 through 12, I have no freakin’ clue. The Eagles now stand at 8-1, after a dominating 51-23 victory over the hapless Denver Broncos. Hey Denver, how did you think starting Brock Osweiler at quarterback was going to go?!

We saw something in the Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers game, we may never see again — ever. Julio Jones, one of the most talented, sure-handed wide receivers in the NFL, dropped the easiest touchdown in the history of touchdowns. If you didn’t see it, check it out here.

Dropping a wide open touchdown hurts all the time, but down 10, with 8:23 to play, on 4th & 7 adds salt to the wound. “I’m sure this won’t haunt you forever.”

Apparently yesterday was boxing day. No, not the day after Christmas in places that don’t matter. There were a lot of fights in the NFL….

AJ Green showed the world his best UFC style choke slam on Sunday. Jacksonville Jaguars’ cornerback Jalen Ramsey was his victim. Check out brawl #1 of many here. Both players were promptly ejected.

Mike Evans thought it was a good idea to blindside Marshon Lattimore. Brawl #2 ensued. Click here to watch the stupidity. Inexplicably, no one was ejected.

And last but not least, the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers got into a straight up brawl. Following a late hit to 49ers’ quarterback, C.J. Beathard, fisticuffs happened. Click here to watch the melee.

What did you watch on Sunday?? Tell me all about it in the comment section below. Just don’t try to fight me please.

Watson’s Spectacular Rookie Season Cut Short

watson

Everything, can be gone in seconds.

You can spend your entire life working toward, and sacrificing for your dream. And all that, in the blink of an eye, can be gone. There’s a fine line between the top of the world, and the worst day of your life.

Rookie quarterback sensation, Deshaun Watson, understands. Thursday afternoon, during a routine play in a routine practice, Watson took a tumble. A non-contact tumble. It has since been confirmed the Clemson product tore his right ACL. Watson tore his left ACL while at Clemson, so he probably just wanted to even everything out. In all seriousness, this is an enormous blow to Watson and his Houston Texans. The Texans (3-4) are in the hunt in the AFC South division. And Watson, oh man, was Watson having himself a season.

Deshaun Watson’s QB Rankings:

Touchdowns – 1st (19)

QBR – 1st (81.9)

Rushing Yards – 1st (289)

He was the runaway Offensive Rookie of the Year, as well as an MVP candidate. The Texans are currently the highest scoring team in the NFL at 30.7 points per game. That’s about to change. The Texans will turn the reigns back over to Tom Savage. Yes, the Tom Savage who was named the starting quarterback of this Texans team to start the season, but was pulled after 1 half of 1 game.

I can picture Texans head coach, Bill O’ Brien, now….

“No, seriously Tom, we believe in you! I know we pulled your life support plug even though you were still breathing, but we really, realllyyy believe in you this time!”

I wonder if it’s awkward.

The Texans are going to sign Matt McGloin as their new backup quarterback. Yikes!

I hope Deshaun Watson has a speedy, successful recovery. And I hope he’s able to return to MVP form in the not so distant future.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Speaking of MVP candidates, Josh McCown is playing above his means. He, alongside an underrated defense, shockingly has the New York Jets in playoff contention. This Jets team, underestimated by EVERYONE, is exceeding expectations to the nth degree. They currently stand at 4-5 on the season, after a convincing 34-21 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football. Considering they’ve blown 3 sizable leads this season, the Jets could easily be 7-2 or 6-3.

Crazy right?!

I was wrong. Let me start there. I thought the Jets would win between 2 and 4 games this season. While the organization hit the reboot button, aka tank mode, players don’t tank. They play to win. And usually, a professional athlete enjoys being overlooked.

Do me a favor. Go out into the world today, and tell someone they can’t do something. See what happens.

The only problem is, I’ve been a Jets’ fan my entire life. Yes, that’s a problem. The second I start praising them, they’ll disappoint me. So hopefully, they continue to wear that chip on their shoulder. Hopefully they continue to outwork the “favorite” across from them. And hopefully, they continue to embrace the underdog role.

The Jets will enjoy some time off, as they don’t play again until Sunday, November 12th. They will travel to Tampa to take on the struggling Buccaneers. Check back for a stellar prediction on that Week 10 showdown.

Nothing Better Than Game 7!!

dodgers-force-decisive-game-7-with-narrow-win-over-astros-1

Okay. So, you all got what you wanted: Game 7. Well, all except the Houston Astros and their fans. But everyone else, everyone else got what they wanted. Another do-or-die situation. It’s the best term in sports; Game 7.

Wednesday night’s Game 7 will stand as the 38th in World Series history, and the 2nd in as many years. The question is, will we get a clunker like 1956 or an unforgettable masterpiece like 1960??

To understand where we are, we must look at how we get here….

“Oh, now he’s a philosophizer.”

I feel bad for those who fell into a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup induced coma in the 5th inning. You missed yet another comeback by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Justin Verlander, with a 1-0 lead, had a 1-hit gem going.

Then, the 6th inning happened: Single, Hit By Pitch, Double, Sacrifice Fly.

And just like that, a 1-0 lead became a 2-1 deficit.

Verlander got through the inning but would be the end of his evening. Joe Musgrove was brought in to cough up a solo home run to Joc Pederson. 3-1 is where it would stay. Following Dave Roberts’ quick hook of starter, Rich Hill, the Dodgers went to the familiar combination of Brandon Morrow, Tony Watson, Kenta Maeda, and Kenley Jansen to slam the door on the Astros. This 4-man wrecking crew would allow just 1 hit and 1 walk through 4 and 2/3 innings. Jansen, aka Super-Closer, will be available for Game 7 despite a 2-inning save. All I have to say is, 2 innings, 19 pitches, and 18 strikes. Boom!

Game 7 will be played tonight at 8:20 P.M. EST on FOX. Lance McCullers Jr. will face off against Yu Darvish for all the marbles. I look forward to having a fist fight with my eyelids.

Who wins tonight?? Post your prediction, with the score, in the comment section below.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Halloween was a busy day in the sports world. 4 P.M. EST marked the trade deadline in the NFL. A handful of names were on the move. Some trades were good, some were bad, and some may effect your fantasy football team. However, we must take this moment in history to make fun of the Cleveland Browns. I know, I know. They’re an easy target. But some things can’t be ignored.

Did you ever do something….but not actually do it?? Yeah I know that doesn’t make sense, but the Cleveland Browns figured out how to accomplish whatever it is I’m saying. The Browns traded for Cincinnati Bengals’ backup quarterback, A.J. McCarron on Tuesday. The Bengals would receive a 2nd and 3rd round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and McCarron would receive a slow, painful death sentence otherwise known as the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.

The Bengals sent all the necessary paperwork to the Browns as well as the NFL approximately 20 minutes prior to the deadline. The Browns sent paperwork to the Bengals, but left out the only part that matters….SENDING PAPERWORK TO THE NFL!!

No trade is official until it’s signed, sealed, and delivered to the NFL. Yeah, I went there. As dumb as my New York Jets are, I am confident that ONLY the Cleveland Browns can figure out how to make a trade without actually making a trade….

Notable Trades:

Carolina Panthers traded Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills for a 3rd and 7th-round picks (2018)

Miami Dolphins traded Jay Ajayi to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 4th-round pick (2018)

Buffalo Bills traded Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 6th-round pick (2018)

Are the Cleveland Browns the most poorly run franchise in sports history?? If not, please tell me in the comment section below.

Bill Belichick Is An Idiot!!

Los Angeles Chargers v New England Patriots

The NFL. The gift that keeps on giving. As if Monday Night Football wasn’t enough, the NFL was blessed with storylines for days. Monday provided us with a mediocre football game, a questionable trade, and the suspension that won’t go away — or happen.

MNF

Trevor Siemian is NOT an NFL quarterback. He doesn’t have the arm strength, awareness, or vision to compete at the highest level. The Denver Broncos’ 3-1 start was a mirage. By season’s end, their 42-17 blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys (Week 2) will be an inexplicable anomaly. Siemian threw 3 interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday night, bringing his grand total to 10 interceptions in 7 games.

There’s a reason Siemian was drafted in the 7th round.

On the other hand, the Chiefs handled their business, winning 29-19. They didn’t look overly impressive. If you force 5 turnovers, including a fumble return for a touchdown, you should win by more than 10. Alex Smith played like, well, Alex Smith (14 for 31/202 yds/1 td), and Kareem Hunt had a pedestrian 46 yards on 22 carries. The Chiefs move to 6-2 on the season, tied for the best record in the AFC.

Bill Belichick Is Not A Genius

Everyone. Correction. Almost everyone blindly walks the Bill Belichick line. “Bill Belichick made this move, it has to be good.” I’m sorry, but I’m no sheep. Trading Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers, for a 2nd round pick, is NOT a good trade.

Let’s travel back in time. Remember when the Patriots, just 6 months ago, were offered the #1 overall pick in the draft for Garoppolo???? I do. They declined, putting their future eggs in the Jimmy Garoppolo basket. Does the basket suddenly have a hole in it??

Plus, I know the Patriots are a ‘next man up’ kind of franchise, but what do they do if Tom Brady goes down?? They’ve now traded Jacoby Brissett and Garoppolo, leaving NO ONE as their backup quarterback. I’m not saying this is a dumb move, but this is A DUMB MOVE!!!!

The Suspension That Never Was Or Is Or Will Be….Or Will It?!

Ezekiel Elliot’s most recent preliminary injunction request has been denied — again. Some say he will begin serving his suspension this coming week. Some say he will appeal this decision and receive another temporary restraining order against his 6-game suspension. I can’t take this, or follow this, anymore. I couldn’t draw a timeline of Elliot’s ‘suspension activity’ if I tried. It’s filled with enough zigs, and zags, and stop signs, and yield signs, and flashing yellow lights, to make your head explode. And at the end of the day, we’ve ended up right where we started: Ezekiel Elliot will be suspended 6 games for violation of the NFL’s player conduct policy (domestic violence).

I hope he actually serves his suspension. When you beat up a woman, you deserve a punishment. A HARSH ONE!! Elliot should serve his suspension, hopefully learn from his mistake, and move on with his life.

What was Monday’s biggest story?? Post your opinion in the comment section below.
