Raise Your Hand If You’re Pretending To Be A Soccer Fan Today!!!!

Today is a BIG day!!

The World Cup begins. The U.S. Open begins. And the New York Mets look to score their first run of the season….

World Cup

Today, droves of people will pretend to be DIE HARD soccer fans. They’ll buy jerseys. They’ll take off work to watch “their” team play. Hell, they may even paint their faces.

world cup

And in approximately four weeks, they’ll forget soccer ever existed.

It’s actually amazing.

So, Mother Russia is your host, and they’ll kick off the World Cup with the 1st match @ 11:00 A.M. EST. They’ll take on Saudi Arabia, the presumed worst team in Group A. The rest of their group is made up of Uruguay and Egypt. In other words, the host country has received a cake walk into the next round. If only that was a coincidence….

Here are the rest of the groups:

B

Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Iran

C

France, Denmark, Peru, and Australia

D

Argentina, Croatia, Nigeria, Iceland

E

Brazil, Switzerland, Serbia, and Costa Rica

F

Germany, Sweden, Mexico, and South Korea

G

Belgium, England, Tunisia, and Panama

H

Colombia, Poland, Japan, and Senegal

Team to feel bad for: Morocco

Landing in a group with Spain and Portugal just seems like slow, painful, torture to me.

Underdog with a chance: Colombia

If they beat Germany, and that’s the biggest IF ever, they have a chance.

World Cup Champion: Brazil

Neymar-in-Russia-World-cup-2018

Brazil is the Vegas favorite (+400) to win the World Cup. Having not won a World Cup since 2002 (pobre Brazil), they’re due.

U.S. Open (Golf)

shinnecock hills

The 1st round of the U.S. Open will be played today. This year’s U.S. Open is being hosted by Shinnecock Hills, right in my back yard. 156 golfers will tee-it-up on Thursday in hopes to raise that trophy on Sunday evening. Shinnecock Hills was last home to the U.S. Open in 2004, a tournament won by Retief Goosen.

The Vegas favorite this week is Dustin Johnson (+900). After winning the FedEx St. Jude Classic this past weekend, DJ looks to be back to his winning ways.

Not that he has a chance to win, but Tiger Woods (+1600) is playing in his 1st U.S. Open since 2015 (where he missed the cut), and last won in 2008.

My money’s on Jordan Spieth (+1400). Not a long shot by any stretch of the imagination. Just my humble opinion.

Worst. Offense. EVER!!

new-york-mets

The New York Mets’ offense is taking anemic to a whole new level. Since June 1st (10 games), they have scored 14 runs. That’s less, over the same time span, than some individual players. Evan Gattis has driven in 18 runs since June 1st.

The Mets are literally wasting Jacob deGrom’s prime. Over his last 10 starts, deGrom has lowered his e.r.a. from 3.24 to 1.55, giving up a total of 6 runs, and has only won two of those starts. THAT’S EMBARRASSING!!!!

Oh, and the Mets as a team, have lost 10-of-their-last-11 games. The near future doesn’t look any brighter either, with their next eight games on the road (Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies).

U.S.A., U.S.Ain’t Goin’ To The World Cup!!

us soccer

This is the worst moment in United States soccer history. There are a lot of moments to choose from, I know, but this takes the cake.

“You embarrass yourself!”

The plot was simple, win and you’re in. Despite losing to Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. men’s soccer team could have qualified for the World Cup with losses from Panama or Honduras. Thanks for nothing amigos!!

Allow me to walk you through this disaster….

1.) Nothing says we want to win like scoring on yourself. Omar Gonzalez tops our list of blunders, with an own goal in the 17th minute. Watch this beaut here.

2.) Being down 1-0 wasn’t sufficient, so the U.S. thought they’d dig themselves a deeper hole. Allowing a goal (37th minute) from 44-yards out is inexcusable. Watch Tim Howard’s finest hour here.

3.) Honduras’ goal, to tie Mexico in the 54th minute, was something out of a movie. Albeth Elis, of Honduras, gets away with a blatant foul, as he steals the ball in Mexico’s box. He then centers the ball to a wide open Eddie Hernandez. Hernandez rips a shot off the cross bar, that bounces off Mexican Goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa’s face, and lands in the back of the net. Watch the crazy sequence here.

4.) And in the 60th minute of that same Honduras vs. Mexico match, Honduras scores to take a 3-2 lead. If only Romell Quioto wasn’t CLEARLY off sides on the play….

Don’t believe me?? Watch the play here.

5.) And then, there’s the goal Panama “scored” to tie Costa Rica 1-1. I’m sorry, but this was not a goal. Yes, the U.S. should have won their match, so none of this would have mattered, but this is as bad as it gets. Check out this non-goal here.

6.) Don’t forget the cherry on top. Clint Dempsey hit the post in the 77th minute. And Bobby Wood was denied from point-blank range by Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper, Adrian Foncette, in the 88th minute.

It’s as if somebody didn’t want the United States in Russia.

Hmmmmmm….

This is the first time the U.S. Men’s soccer team has failed to qualify for the World Cup since 1986 (great year!). I’m assuming head coach, Bruce Arena’s 2nd tenure with the team will be coming to a close. Pathetic!! Not only is this extremely disappointing for soccer fans across the country, but it doesn’t exactly help FIFA’s wallet.

I doubt anyone will lose any sleep over that….

Can you think of a more embarrassing moment in U.S. sports history?? Post any shame you can think of in the comment section below.

Dare I Call The U.S. Champions??

Jordan-Morris-Becomes-Legendary-as-USA-Wins-Gold-Cup-Over-Jamaica

USA!! USA!! USA!! This will echo throughout the country today. The U.S. Men’s Soccer Team did something they hadn’t done in 4 years. They won the Gold Cup!! Yes, you heard that right. The U.S. actually won something that has to do with soccer. The Gold Cup is a North American tournament held every 2 years. A tournament usually dominated by Mexico or the United States, saw Mexico fall one match short of the finals. They were upset by Jamaica in the semi-finals after a stunning 1-0 defeat.

The last time a team not named USA or Mexico won the Gold Cup was back in 2000, when Canada won.

The U.S. took on Jamaica in the Finals Wednesday night in a thrilling match. The drama revved up in the 23rd minute, when Jamaican goalkeeper, Andre Blake, suffered a gruesome finger injury and was forced to leave the match. No update has been given on the status of his finger. Backup goalkeeper, Dwayne Miller, played the rest of the match in place of Blake. Despite losing, Miller played pretty well.

The United States would strike first, as U.S. forward, Jozy Altidore, drove home a wonderful free kick just prior to halftime (in the 45th minute). I like Altidore man. This guy is big, strong, and he always erupts with raw emotion after a goal. He is a very solid, physical player, and I believe he is an x-factor for this U.S. team. It is also nice to see him bounce back after multiple injuries over the past few years. Right after halftime, Jamaica UNFORTUNATELY evened the score, when Je-Vaughn Watson drove home a beautiful one-timer off a corner kick in the 50th minute. The U.S., however, showed their true colors.

We fast forward to the 88th minute. This was the moment the U.S. team would seal their fate. U.S. forward, Jordan Morris, was standing at the right place at the right time. He put a right-footed shot past Miller from just inside the box. And let the celebration begin!!

This is the U.S.’s 6th Gold Cup Championship. Under coach, Bruce Arena, they are playing very well. Hopefully they can carry this momentum all the way through the World Cup. The World Cup is coming our way in less than a year. It will be hosted by Russia (yes that Russia), and it commences on June 14th, 2018. Oh the world — will be watching.

For now, we get to call the U.S. Champions!!

I know you don’t care about soccer, but tell me if you watched this match in the comment section below….

Free-For-All Friday

STUPID

STUPID PEOPLE

Yesterday, Thursday, July 20th, was a really STUPID DAY!! I’m mad at myself for mentioning this story, but it infuriates me that it dominated SPORTS headlines ALL day (and this morning too). A criminal, who did heinous things, was approved for parole. And because this criminal happened to be a famous athlete 45 years ago, ESPN decided it would be appropriate to air their parole hearing. And then, they thought it would be a good idea to talk about this, and only this, for the next 18 hours and counting….

Talk about a pathetic money grab!!

And the part that pisses me off the most is Sports Talk Radio Hosts continue to pronounce that “WE were ALL watching. WE are ALL contributing to the relevancy of this story.” SPEAK FOR YOURSELF!! I did not and will not watch a single second of this garbage. I won’t lend a hand in allowing this criminal to prosper financially. Upon release, this individual will most likely sign a book deal or star in a reality TV show. And the IDIOTS in this world, who are sporting an IQ of 84, will tune in and be glued to the TV screen like hamsters on a freakin’ wheel. NOT ME!! NOT NOW!! NOT EVER!!

I’D RATHER BE GOLFING

The 1st round of the Open Championship was really fun to watch. Following Thursday’s action, the top of the leaderboard was being shared by 3 men, Jordan Spieth (my pick to win), Brooks Koepka, and Matt Kuchar. Kuchar is currently playing his 2nd round, and is even on the day thru 13 holes. Spieth will tee-off at 9:48 a.m., and Koepka will tee-off at 10:10 a.m. The rest of this tournament could get VERY interesting, because the forecast is calling for heavy rain and strong wind for Friday – Sunday. Having played an entire round of golf, in Scotland, through torrential downpour and 30 mph winds, it is challenging to say the least.

Now that, is good TV….

MEXICANS IN RUSSIA??

Mexicans must have so many questions for Russia. I know I do. That must be why they are playing so well in this year’s Gold Cup. See, the winner of the Gold Cup, along with the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, automatically qualify to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Mexico beat Honduras 1-0 in the Gold Cup Quarterfinal on Thursday in convincing fashion. Yes, a convincing 1-0 win. Mexico’s Rodolfo Pizarro scored in the 4th minute, and then Mexico coasted to victory. As for the United States, they will be in action this Saturday @ 10:00 p.m. against Costa Rica.

This is usually the part where the United States screws something up….

IT’S ABOUT TIME!!

The New York Jets’ 1st round pick, Jamal Adams, finally signed his rookie contract. Thursday night, the former LSU safety put pen to paper, reportedly signing a 4-year, $22.2 million contract (fully guaranteed). Adams will report to training camp on July 28th and will look to become the leader of a young, rebuilding franchise. As bad as the Jets are going to be this year, I’m really excited to watch Adams play. Everything about him screams NFL stud. As long as he can avoid the circus that is the Jets, and keep his mind focused on football, he should be a staple in the Jets’ secondary for the next decade.

Man..I’m excited for football!!
