I’m your host, Dave Ettinger of CBS Sports Radio Network, and in today’s episode I predict the future of NBA Free Agency and once again recognize the Yankees’ greatness!!
They were winning — until they weren’t.
With their backs headed in the direction of a wall, the Cleveland LeBrons looked to handle their business, at home. They shot out of the gates, grabbing a 12-point lead (16-4) through the first 4 minutes and 40 seconds of the game. However, they, along with the rest of the world, would soon realize it was Kevin Durant’s night. Durant dropped 13 points in the 1st quarter, bringing the Warriors within one (29-28).
A theme would develop, as the LeBrons would find themselves up 13 points (50-37) with 4:06 to play in the 1st half. However (lol), Kevin Durant’s 11-point 2nd quarter brought them within six (58-52) at halftime. It was an unfortunate pattern for the LeBrons, who lacked the foot-on-throat mentality all night.
And now, sit back, relax, and enjoy our halftime show….
Annndddd, we’re back.
The Warriors did what they do in the 3rd quarter. They scored 31 points. Did you know, in this year’s playoffs, the Warriors have scored at least 30 points in the 3rd quarter 13 times?! No, that’s not normal. And the seven times they didn’t reach the 30-point mark, they scored 19, 27, 27, 28, 28, 29, and 29 points. Yup, like I said, not normal.
Despite the Warriors holding a two-point lead heading into the 4th quarter, the LeBrons hung tough. LeBron James, as always, did his thing (despite the commentators stating he played poorly multiple times):
33 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals (in 47 minutes)
The LeBrons reclaimed the lead with 3:11 to play, but again, their foot never got within three feet of the Warriors’ throat. Even with Stephen Curry having one of the worst shooting nights of his career, his lone three-pointer (1-10) came at an extremely opportune time. The Warriors closed the game on a 14-5 run, including a Mortal Kombat Fatality Move by Kevin Durant:
Like, love, or hate the Warriors, you have to appreciate the stone cold look on Durant’s face following this ENORMOUS three-pointer. That look probably stemmed from his unreal performance:
43 points (15-23), 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1 steal
110-102, Warriors. 3-0, Warriors. NBA Dynasty (soon to be three-out-of-four championships), Warriors.

With the NBA Awards Show rapidly approaching, they’re going to need to add another category; Dumbest Person In The World.
There’s no need to keep you waiting in suspense. JR Smith is going to win by unanimous vote.
Thursday night, JR Smith took dumb, stupid, idiotic, moronic, mindless, senseless, and dense to a whole new level.
Watch….then we’ll talk:
WOW!! Just, wow.
So, let’s start with the game, which is getting completely overshadowed by JR Smith’s mind numbing I.Q. This game was a lot closer than anyone expected. Kevin Love played like a real guy (21 points and 13 rebounds) after being cleared from the concussion protocol hours before tip-off. And LeBron James was, well, LeBron James:
51 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block (in 48 minutes)
Even in defeat (124-114 F/OT), he continues to climb the all-time rankings.
The problem is, LeBron scored 51 points, shot 59.3% from the field, and his team still lost. We can hem and haw over “missed” calls and an overturned charge all day long, but the fact is, the Cleveland LeBrons are staring a 1-0 deficit in the face.
**Okay, let’s hem and haw anyway. LeBron James sacrificed his body to draw an offensive charge on Kevin Durant with 36.4 seconds remaining in regulation. The referees, however, determined they couldn’t determine whether LeBron’s feet were outside the restricted area.
Looks pretty clear to me….
Evidently, the referees have the prerogative to overturn the call, for any reason, under the guise of “we were checking if he was in the restricted area”. While that whole premise is bogus, they got the call right in the end. So, if the result is correct, does it matter how they got there??
AND NOW, without further ado, let’s dissect JR Smith’s (scary) thought process with 4.7 seconds left in regulation. **Clearly, the game was tied at 107.** Watch the replay again, and you’ll notice Smith, just prior to George Hill’s free-throw, has his hands in the air, looking in the direction of his bench, trying to figure out the score. So when he rips down a great rebound, and makes a bee-line toward half court, it’s because HE THINKS THEY’RE WINNING!!!!
You’ll also notice LeBron James absolutely lose his mind. When LeBron realizes Smith is driving a 6th of the way across the country in the WRONG DIRECTION, he vehemently points at the basket, as to say, “go that way idiot!!!!”
Yes, George Hill could have made the free-throw. And no, there’s no guarantee the LeBrons score in the final 4.7 seconds (even if Smith didn’t have that face/ass transplant surgery). And Yes, the LeBrons could have won the game in overtime. But JR Smith didn’t help their cause.
My favorite part was JR Smith’s post-game experience, after having time to collect his “thoughts”:
“No, I knew we were tied,” Smith said. “It’s just, I thought we were going to take a timeout because I got the rebound. And then I looked over at Bron [LeBron James], and he looked like he was trying to call a timeout. So I stopped. And then the game was over.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
While that story is completely fabricated, he did provide the rest of the world, outside of Cleveland, a wildly entertaining moment. Especially for Knicks’ fans. But hey, Knicks’ fans are entitled to a good laugh too….

The Warriors Backed Themselves Into A Corner
If I told you James Harden would go 0-for-11 from three-point range in Game 5, you’d tell me the Houston Rockets would lose by 20 points. Fear the beard in December, shave the beard in May.
By the way, it makes me happy that James Harden is the biggest choke artist in sports since Phil Mickelson….
So, I’m not sure what’s wrong with the Warriors. How, the best team the NBA has seen in 20 years, can beat their opponent by 41 points one night and lose to them twice over the next four days is beyond my brain power.
The Warriors’ depth has taken a slight hit with Andre Iguodala missing the past two games, but that shouldn’t keep the Warriors from beating the hapless Rockets. James Harden and Chris Paul shot a combined 11-for-40 Thursday night — and still won (98-94). That makes no sense.
For the 2nd consecutive game, the Warriors carried a lead into the 4th quarter. And for the 2nd consecutive game, they wilted down the stretch. Kevin Durant, the world’s 2nd best player (it’s not even that close), went 0-for-4 in the 4th quarter. Down 95-94, with under 50 seconds to play, the Warriors had, not one, but two chances to take the lead. Both failed. And then, with under 10 seconds left, Draymond Green fumbled away their last ditch effort.
Watch butterfingers:
That is the Warriors past two games in a nutshell. They’ll head home, down 3-2, looking to force a Game 7. LeBron James, and his band of misfits, will look to do the same.

Houston Rockets @ Golden State Warriors: Saturday @ 9:00 P.M. EST on TNT.
The Islanders Did Something Smart?!
The New York Islanders, despite their recent history, made a smart decision Tuesday. They hired the ‘GM of all GMs’; Lou Lamoriello. Lamoriello, best known for turning the bottom feeding New Jersey Devils into a perennial powerhouse, will take the reigns for the Islanders.
This is brilliant.
While Lamoriello will technically be called ‘President of Hockey Operations’, he’ll be the GM, the President, the CEO, the Mom, and the Dad, all at once. You don’t hire the best to ever do it, and then NOT turn over full control.
Lamoriello spent 27 years as the Devils’ GM. In their 1st season, they had a winning record. They made the playoffs in 22-of-27 seasons. And they won three Stanley Cups in five appearances.
Decent….
This hire is GREAT for a multitude of reasons. No Islanders’ fan should be upset, this week. But this hire was made for one reason; SIGN JOHN TAVARES!!
Apparently, Tavares is “pleased” with the hire — as he should be. The question, however, remains: Will Tavares sign on the dotted line for the Islanders????

How can you win by 41 points on Sunday, and lose by 3 points on Tuesday?! The answer SHOULD be, you can’t.
Warriors Collapse
Game four of the Western Conference Finals was played Tuesday night. With a 2-1 lead, the Golden State Warriors, at home, were looking to secure a commanding series lead. After jumping out to a 12-0 lead nearly halfway through the 1st quarter, that looked like a certainty. If only the Warriors knew the NBA gods were about to stuff them into a locker.
Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson collectively went ice cold. They shot a combined 23-for-63 from the field. That’s 36.5%. That’s not good.
Despite their lackluster performance, they returned to Warrior form, if only for 12 minutes. They scored 34 points in the 3rd quarter. Like I told you Monday, the Warriors should ©, ®, or ™ the 3rd quarter. However, when you score 30 points in the 2nd and 4th quarters combined, you don’t often win basketball games. 95-92, not Golden State.
Game five will be played in Houston on Thursday @ 9:00 P.M. EST on TNT. Expect a bounce back performance from Golden State.
Matt Harvey Sucks A Little Bit Less Than He Used To
Matt Harvey landed in the win column Tuesday.
Allow me to repeat myself: Matt Harvey landed in the WIN column Tuesday!!
This is the part when Mets fans throw things at their wall. Now, I know it’s been just three games, but Matt Harvey, all of a sudden, resembles a Major League pitcher….
(Insert Mets’ Fan Screaming Sound Here).
In eight appearances with the Mets, Harvey surrendered 21 runs in 27 innings.
In three appearances with the Reds, 4 runs in 14 innings.
Hmmmmm, very interesting.
Don’t get me wrong, Harvey’s not going to turn back into an ace, but his e.r.a. has dropped from 7.00 to 5.49 in just three starts. I’m just sayin’….this is the METS’ WAY.
But hey, at least they signed Jose Bautista….
Christian Hackenberg
From the Mets’ way to the Jets’ way.
Christian Hackenberg was drafted in the 2nd round (51st overall pick) out of Penn State in 2016. The Jets hoped Hackenberg could turn into a future star at the QB position. However, he never saw the field. This draft pick is an epic failure in the long list of epic failures for the New York Jets.
And now, Hackenberg has been shipped off to Oakland to compete for the backup QB job with the Raiders. Only the Jets know how to turn a 2nd round draft pick into a 7th round draft pick in two years.
Don’t make fun. That’s not easy to do.

LeBron James, and losing streaks, don’t often collide in the same sentence.
The Conference Finals are slowly, but surely, taking form. And soon (but not too soon), LeBrons Vs. Warriors Part IV will hit the big screen.
Well, that was close….
If you’re a Houston Rockets fan, and you turned off game three early, you didn’t miss much. There was no effort. No energy. No EPIC comeback. Instead, a 41-point drubbing.
Steph Curry led the way with 35 points, hitting 5-of-12 three pointers. After combining for 34 points, on 3-of-12 from three in games one and two, Curry found himself. His 18-point, 3rd quarter outburst reminded the world the Warriors have ownership rights over the 3rd quarter. If they were smart, they’d ©,®, or ™ the 3rd quarter.
Speaking of numbers:

The Warriors, 41-point victory, 126-85, marked the largest playoff victory in Warriors’ franchise history.
Kevin Durant dropped 25 points Sunday, bringing his consecutive 20-point playoff game streak to 20.
Sunday’s victory was the Warriors’ 16th consecutive home, playoff win, breaking the Chicago Bulls (’90-’91) record.
And 2. The Warriors are just 2 victories away from their 4th consecutive NBA Finals.
Remember when you thought the Rockets had a chance in this series?! Silly you….
LeBron Brings Fanatics Down From The Ledge
LeBron James doesn’t lose three games in a row very often — especially in the Conference Finals.
Game three of the Eastern Conference Finals was played Saturday, after an inexplicable three consecutive days off. This was one of the more predictable outcomes in NBA Playoffs history. Anyone who thought the Boston Celtics were going to march into LeBron’s house, after three days off, and back LeBron into a corner, were sorely mistaken. Or they were really high on drugs. Either way.
The Cleveland LeBron’s handled their business, putting a 30-point whoopin’ on the Celtics, 116-86. There was a LeBron teammate sighting (extremely rare), as five other LeBrons put up double digits.
If only LeBron’s teammates were consistent. Think of the possibilities.
LeBron’s work isn’t done. Tuesday night he’ll even up the series at two. Somewhere in the 2nd half the momentum will shift, and the young Celtics will realize taking down LeBron isn’t as easy as it seemed.

The time has come!!
Not just for Mother’s Day, and my wife’s birthday (May 14th), and my birthday (May 14th), and my dad’s birthday (May 14th)….but for the NBA’s Conference Finals.
It’s an exciting time to be alive!!
The question, we already know the answer to, is who will advance to the NBA Finals??
East – (4) Cleveland LeBrons (Cavaliers) vs. (2) Boston Celtics
West – (2) Golden State Warriors vs. (1) Houston Rockets
LeBron
Sunday, at 3:30 P.M. EST, the Eastern Conference Finals will tip-off with the Cleveland LeBrons taking on the Boston Celtics. No need to rack your brain, this is a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. The LeBrons are currently heavy favorites to win the series (-285), and one-point favorites in Game One, on the road.
Listen, the Celtics young core is playing GREAT. But, as long as LeBron is playing at this level (no matter how bad his supporting cast is), he’ll continue to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Like him, love him, or hate him, you have to respect his game and understand he’s the best basketball player the world has seen since Michael Jordan.
The Dynasty
The Golden State Warriors aren’t just the best team in the NBA right now, they’re the best team the NBA has seen in 20 years:
Late 90’s Bulls
Early 90’s Bulls
Showtime Lakers
Bird’s Celtics
Bill Russell’s Celtics
In no order, that’s the level we’re talking about.
This Warriors team is four victories away from playing in their fourth consecutive finals. And they’re just eight victories away from their third championship in four years. Since Kevin Durant joined the Warriors, they’ve lost just three playoff games. Don’t expect many more anytime soon.
James Harden has had a great season. He led the NBA in scoring (30.4 ppg), led his team to the best record in the league (65-17), and is about to win the MVP Award, however, allllll those accomplishments will be for naught. The only thing that matters, besides $$$$, is winning. Without a championship, regular season accolades are meaningless.
The Toronto Raptors know what I’m talking about….
Chris Paul, enjoy your first Conference Finals, for it won’t last long.

Some athletes play better against the best.
Damian Lillard has a soft spot for the Golden State Warriors. Seemingly every time Lillard takes on the Warriors, he takes his career best performance to a new level. Wednesday night, Lillard figured he’d slay the Kevin Durant dragon, ya know, while he was at it.
Damian Lillard sprinted out of the gate, scoring 18 points in the 1st quarter, giving the Trailblazers a 40-27 lead. Kevin Durant would spend the rest of the evening chipping away at the Trailblazers’ lead. His 50-point effort simply wasn’t enough, as the Warriors fell 123-117. Durant was literally the only Warrior to show up last night. Seriously, he played 1-on-5 all night. Okay, that’s not true, but that’s how it felt. Durant made 17 field goals, while Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green combined for 18 field goals.
Lillard finished with 44 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals in 40 minutes (including going a perfect 12 for 12 from the free throw line).
Add this to the list of Lillard’s outstanding performances against the Warriors:
12/11/17 – 39 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals
4/16/17 – 34 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block
5/7/16 – 40 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists
2/19/16 – 51 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals
Not bad for a guy who’s inexplicably made just 3 All-Star teams in his 6-year career.
From the really good..to the REALLY bad….
The New York Knicks.
Just when you think they can’t stoop any lower, they find a way. Tim Hardaway Jr., the 2nd streakiest shooter in the NBA (J.R. Smith will forever hold that distinction), was en fuego last night. Entering last night’s game, Hardaway Jr. was 5 for his last 41 from 3-point range. THAT’S 12.2%!! Last night, he went 6 for 9 from downtown. You figure it out.
As for the game, the Knicks held a 22-point lead over the Washington Wizards with 11:14 to play in the 3rd quarter. Just 1 minute and 33 seconds later, the lead was 13. And thanks to a 15-point 3rd quarter, the Knicks actually trailed 90-87 heading into the 4th quarter. The end result: 118-113, not them.
How is this possible you ask?!?!
Remember when I told you Hardaway Jr. is streaky??
Well, he dropped 32 points in the 1st half, and just 5 in the 2nd half. That’s how!! Honestly, I’m glad. The Knicks should tank the last 23 games anyway. They should play Emmanuel Mudiay, Frank Ntilikina, and Trey Bruke as much as humanly possible. I swear, if I have to watch Jarrett Jack play 28 minutes 1 more time, I may lose it!!
By the way, the Knicks have now lost 8 games in a row.
As for Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks will be without his services for approximately 1 year. Porzingis, sent out a photograph, post-surgery, to let Knicks’ fans know he’ll remain positive throughout his rehab process and can’t wait to get back on the court.
So keep your heads up Knicks’ fans. At least you can look forward to 2020….

The sports world is full of surprises. Breaking news, notes, drama, and shocking revelations. Some stories create smiles. Others, induce vomit. I prefer the former.
The NBA Is A Joke
We’ll get the ‘projectile vomit story’ out of the way. The NBA season, barring MAJOR injury, is predetermined. No one has a fighting chance against the Golden State Warriors. Last season, with the addition of Kevin Durant, the Bay Area Dynasty went from really freakin’ good to absolutely unstoppable. And it’s made the NBA virtually unwatchable.
And the latest rumor, ends with a clean up on aisle 7….
Lebron James can become a free agent after this season. The world will wait with bated breath when he decides where to play. Someone couldn’t wait that long. Allegedly, Lebron James is willing to play for the Golden State Warriors.
Wait, WHAT?!?!?!?!
I understand the concept, “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” But, what value would a championship have if your starting 5 consists of the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 12th, and 16th ranked players in the league?? It was bad enough when Kevin Durant joined ’em, but this would take pathetic to a new level. For everyone’s sake, hopefully this is a silly rumor by an attention seeking “sports journalist”.
NBA Trade Deadline Approaches
Entrenched in the playoff picture, the New Orleans Pelicans bolstered their frontcourt on Thursday. After losing All-Star center, DeMarcus Cousins, for the season, the Pelicans needed to recoup some size, scoring, and rebounds. While you can’t replace Cousins, Nikola Mirotic is not the worst consolation prize in the world.

Bulls Get: Omer Asik, Tony Allen, Jameer Nelson, and a 2018 1st Round Pick (Top-5 protected)
Surrendering a 1st round pick was the only way New Orleans could get out from under Omer Asik’s contract (owed $20.7 million through 2019). With this move complete, the Pelicans can now make a run at Greg Monroe, who was recently bought out by the Phoenix Suns.
The question is: Will it be enough to keep the Pelicans in the Western Conference Playoffs?
MLB Protective Netting
Eureka!! Major League Baseball has finally decided to take fan safety seriously. As of Opening Day of the 2018 season, all 30 MLB teams will have protective netting extended past the dugouts. After MLB made a league wide suggestion in 2015 that all teams extend their netting, it is no longer optional.
Although I’m not happy a handful of fans were injured in 2017 due to foul balls and flying bats, I’m glad no one was killed due to MLB’s shortsightedness. Now, fans can go back to ignoring the action on the field. Because, ya know, whatever’s on their cell phone is very important.
