“SHAME On You YANKEES!!!! (DTS Podcast – #69)

You might be giving the Yankees a pass today, but I’m certainly not!!

They should have beaten the Astros in the ALCS.

They should be playing in the World Series.

But, they are not.

Because they played like poop.

Period.

See ya!

“Injuries, Embarrassing, and Pathetic….That’s Life Right Now!!” (DTS Podcast – #68)

Reigning NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes, dislocated his kneecap. If you were watching the play, kneecaps aren’t supposed to move like that.

The Yankees suck. They don’t swing the bat. They forgot how to hit. They can’t drive in any runners. And, they forgot HOW TO FIELD A BASEBALL!!

And finally, it’s a shame CC Sabathia’s hall of fame career is going to end that way.

“It’s Good To Know The Only Thing LeBron Cares About Is Money….” (DTS Podcast – #66)

LeBron James has made himself perfectly clear, sort of, not really, well NOT AT ALL ACTUALLY!!

I wonder what it’s like to tell the world someone else is uneducated and then speak in unintelligible gibberish….

All those who said the Jaguars wouldn’t get Two 1st-Round picks for Jalen Ramsey look very silly right now.

The Yankees need to do a rain dance..in a hurry.

The Nationals will lose every bit of momentum they ever had and will lose in the World Series….in 5 games.

Have an awesome, rainy day!!!!

Stop Gun Violence Now!!

Rest In Peace Don Banks.

If the Yankees send 1 more player to the IL, I’m going to scream!!!!

The Mets Still SUCK!!

Tom Brady is amazing. No revelation here….just good, old-fashioned fun.

Yannick Ngakoue swung, and Yannick Ngakoue missed.

Draymond Green is a very rich man.

Welcome To New York Big Fella!!

Would anyone care for a Gatorade bath??

NO?!

I bet Giancarlo Stanton would disagree with you on that one.

Walk-Off In Pinstripes!!

The New York Yankees took their 2nd consecutive game off of the Seattle Mariners in as many days. Tuesday night was an easy 7-2 victory. Wednesday, however, came in the form of an epic comeback:

(Watch the entire video)

Wednesday’s game was a tale of two halves. Heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, the Yankees trailed 5-0. It was all pinstripes from there on in:

An Aaron Judge 2-r.b.i. single in the 5th. A Didi Gregorius sacrifice fly in the 7th. A monstrous Gary Sanchez 2-run home run in the 8th. And an absolute rocket walk-off home run by Giancarlo Stanton in the 9th.

7-5.

Go watch Stanton’s home run again. Check out the pure elation exuded immediately following the stratospheric blast!! AWESOME. And of course, an otherwise odd occurrence, the infamous Gatorade bath. Because nothing says job well done like getting drenched in an ant farm’s dream vacation.

gatorade bath

Maybe this “Yankee Moment” will finally get spoiled Yankee fans off Stanton’s back. I’m the biggest Yankee fan I know, but sometimes I want to gently place my fist between certain Yankee fans’ eyeballs.

He’s on pace for 41 home runs this season….

Pack Your Bags Sir

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Charlotte Hornets

Dwight Howard is on the move — again.

Wednesday morning, the Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets agreed to a trade:

Hornets Receive:

Timofey Mozgov and two 2nd round picks in tonight’s NBA Draft (40th and 45th picks)

Nets Receive:

Dwight Howard

On the surface this trade seems wildly lopsided. Despite Howard’s poo-poo attitude, he’s still a walking double-double who adds nearly two blocks every night. However, Howard rubs EVERYONE the wrong way, EVERYWHERE he plays. There’s a reason a potential (relax, I said potential) Hall of Fame talent will soon play on his 6th team in 15 seasons.

On the other hand, the Hornets cleared salary cap space for the upcoming season. Howard was due to make nearly $24 million in 2018 opposed to Mozgov’s $16 million.

I still can’t believe someone (the Lakers) signed Timofey freakin’ Mozgov to a 4-year, $64 million contract.

stupid

And the Nets will clear salary cap space beyond this year, as Howard’s astronomical contract comes off the books at the end of this season. Slowly, the Nets are becoming the most attractive place to play — in New York.

Are you dumb enough to think A WALK-OFF HOME RUN MAKES Giancarlo Stanton a “Yankee”?!

When Did Everything Get So Awesome??

In case you hadn’t noticed….

The Stanley Cup Finals is in full swing — and it’s awesome.

There’s a lot of awesome flying around, below the radar, waiting to be consumed. The question is: Can you find it??

Stanley Cup Finals

Vegas-Golden-Knights-1-1

The NHL will have itself a first-time Stanley Cup Champion; the expansion Las Vegas Golden Knights or the Washington Capitals. But first, an epic battle to the death!! Or we’ll just play hockey….Either way. If game one is any indication of how this series is going to go, we’re in for a treat.

135 shot attempts. 52 saves. 10 goals (6-4). 1-0 Vegas.

A raucous crowd filled T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Monday. The towels started waving nearly 30-minutes prior to the drop of the puck, and they never stopped. Game one was fast-paced, competitive, and down right fun. For the first time in Stanley Cup Finals’ history, there were four lead changes in a single game. And after the Golden Knights took the lead on a Tomas Nosek goal with 10:16 to play, they never looked back.

But of course, this game didn’t pass by without controversy. With just over 14:00 to play, Tom Wilson lined up Jonathan Marchessault, in open-ice, with what many have deemed a dirty hit. You tell me….

Watch game two Wednesday @ 8:00 P.M. EST on NBCSN. You won’t be disappointed.

Yankees Win In Extras

gleyber torres walk off

Last time I checked, a win is a win. Although we put more import on games in August and September, games in May mean just as much. And when you’re the New York Yankees, they mean even more against your American League competition. That’s why today, is a good day for Yankee fans. After getting mowed down by Justin Verlander Monday, they bounced back Tuesday with a dramatic 6-5 victory (in 10 innings) over the Houston Astros.

The Astros carried a 5-3 lead to the bottom of the ninth inning. Miguel Andujar led off the inning with a walk. And after Gleyber Torres stuck out, Brett Gardner launched a 2-run, game-tying, home run (his 2nd of the game) to right centerfield. Yankee Stadium, erupted!!

And with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Andujar set the table again. This time, for a Gleyber Torres walk-off single. Check it out:

The French Open Is Happening

serena-williams-french-open-win-feature-image

In case you hadn’t noticed….

The French Open is happening. It’s well under way, and it’s awesome.

Serena Williams won her 1st match, at a major, in 16 months, taking down Kristyna Pliskova 7-6, 6-4 Tuesday. She played a grand total of ZERO warm-up matches on clay, because, ya know, she’s Serena Williams. Her next opponent will be 17th seed, Ashleigh Barty.

While Serena’s comeback is impressive, this tournament is, and always has been, about Rafael Nadal. The 10-time French Open Champion improved to 80-2 in his favorite tournament, beating lucky loser, Simone Bolelli in straight sets (6-4, 6-3, 7-6). Nadal will take on Guido Pella in the 2nd round.

Don’t be surprised if Nadal’s new title, come June 10th, is 11-time French Open Champion.

Did you notice all of this awesomeness?? Don’t lie to me in my comment section!!

What’s Better Than One 50 Home Run Hitter??

stanton

It’s a great day to be alive!!

But, more importantly, it’s a great day to be a Yankees’ fan!!

On Saturday, the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins agreed on a trade that would send Giancarlo Stanton to the Bronx. The Marlins received Starlin Castro and 2 prospects, Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers. The deal is pending a Stanton physical and signature. The Yankees will assume $265 million of the remaining $295 million left on his contract. This is significant, only for the Yankees’ wallet, as they’ll remain under the luxury tax threshold of $197 million next year (cutting their tax figure from 50% to 20%).

This deal comes on the heels of the Marlins shipping Dee Gordon to the Seattle Mariners. The Marlins’ new owner, Derek Jeter, is cutting costs in an effort to get payroll under $90 million. I wouldn’t get too comfy if I was Starlin Castro. Expect the Marlins to also get out from under the contracts of Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich in the near future. Keep your heads up Miami. While rebuilds aren’t fun to watch, I’d trust Derek Jeter with my baseball team.

This is a TREMENDOUS move by the Yankees. Fresh off the 2017 Executive of the Year Award, Brian Cashman is looking to add to his and the Yankees’ trophy case for years to come. There’s literally only 1 negative to this deal for the Yankees; Stanton is under contract for 10 more years. That’s enough negativity for 1 day.

Giancarlo Stanton, at 28, just won his 1st MVP Award. Check out his ridiculous stats here. Speaking of ridiculous, here’s the Yankees’ projected lineup for 2018:

1.) Brett Gardner

2.) Aaron Judge

3.) Giancarlo Stanton

4.) Gary Sanchez

5.) Greg Bird

6.) Didi Gregorius

7.) Aaron Hicks

8.) Chase Headley

9.) Ronald Torreyes (or me — it doesn’t matter who you put here)

Don’t feel like pitching to Judge because he’s hit 4 home runs in as many days?? No problem. Pitch around him to get to Stanton. Wait that’s a bad idea. Put 2 men on with nobody out to face Gary Sanchez?? Also, not the best of ideas.

It’s not even fair.

By no means am I saying this makes the Yankees World Series favorites. But, they’re closer than they were yesterday. If they acquire a decent starting pitcher, I’d imagine Vegas will reconsider.

This is the part when Yankees’ haters and bitter Mets’ fans make a lot of noise….

Scores of boos coupled with echoes of “Evil Empire” seem loud today, but will turn to white noise after the crack of Giancarlo Stanton’s bat in Yankee Stadium. All I have to say to the “haters” is: THIS WAS A TRADE!! It’s not the Yankees’ fault Stanton had a no-trade clause. It’s not the Yankees’ fault he said no to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. Stanton wanted to be a Yankee, so Stanton is a Yankee. Period. End of story.

Who are the 2 happiest guys in New York right now?? Aaron Boone and Gary Sanchez. Boone, stepping into the most coveted position in all of sports, sans experience, is getting the best Christmas present anyone could ever hope for. And Gary Sanchez, already overshadowed by Aaron Judge, will slide even deeper into the shadows, and continue to hit home runs at a record setting pace.

Is it April yet????

What do you think of the Giancarlo Stanton trade?? Does this make the Yankees World Series favorites?? Tell me in the comment section below.

A Thursday For The Ages

brett gardner

Beware of Flying Helmets

“See ya!!” No 2 words have ever been more recognizable in the world of baseball. Just after 11:00 p.m. on Thursday night, Yankees’ announcer Michael Kay’s voice carried through a humid, Summer night alongside a Brett Gardner long-drive. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Gardner took an Andrew Kittredge breaking-ball deep to right field. And the celebration was on!! A dramatic, walk-off victory (6-5) over the division rival, Tampa Bay Rays is reason to celebrate. Someone, however, should teach the Yankees to exercise caution when jumping up and down on home plate.

In the midst of the raucous celebration, rookie sensation, Aaron Judge, took some friendly fire. Judge caught a helmet right in the kisser, which resulted in a chipped tooth. You can check out the video of the celebration here. It appears that Gardner’s helmet grew legs and jumped off Austin Romine’s back directly into Aaron Judge’s mouth. Judge can be seen immediately grabbing his Michael Strahan-esque smile as he head straight for the locker room. Judge should be fine, but it’s the condition of his signature, gap-toothed smile I’m worried about.

Oh Football

It is insane Colin Kaepernick doesn’t have a job in the NFL. Now, before you jump down my throat, listen closely. You don’t have to agree with Kaepernick’s actions over the past year. Hell, you don’t even have to like him. But, you can’t deny that Kaepernick is qualified to play in the NFL. Forget the fact that he’s better than a portion of the STARTING quarterbacks in the league, but at the start of training camp, most teams carry 4 or 5 quarterbacks. So you’re telling he’s not better than ALL 160 quarterbacks entering NFL training camps?! If you believe that, you’re not being honest with yourself.

Now, just as Kaepernick has the RIGHT to kneel during the National Anthem, NFL owners have the RIGHT not to hire him. This would be all well and good, except for the fact that NFL owners are the biggest hypocrites in the world (thanks to public perception of course). NFL owners have no problem employing murderers, rapists, wife-beaters, dog killers and drug addicts, but ohhhhh nooooo, there is no way we are hiring this protester.

Again, I understand both sides of the debate here, but isn’t it wild how selectively forgiving our society is??

In other football news, Odell Beckham Jr. thought Day 1 of training camp was a good time to tell the world he wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL. Good for you buddy. Now shut up, and go do your job!!

At least Beckham showed up to training camp, unlike fellow NFL star LeVeon Bell. Bell, one of the NFL’s top rushers, is holding out for a lucrative, long-term contract. Yeah, this should end well….

The Rich Get Richer

This is scary. As dominant as the Golden State Warriors were last season, they’ve somehow improved. It’s true. They spent this offseason re-signing every important role player (Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala), and they brought in new reserves in the form of Nick Young and Omri Caspri. As if that wasn’t enough, they spent Thursday re-signing Javale McGee to a veteran’s minimum contract (1-year, $2.1 million). So let’s grab that remote from Adam Sandler’s blockbuster-flop, Click, and fast forward through another NBA season. Barring a major injury to 1 or 2 of the Warriors’ core players, they will, without a doubt, be hoisting the trophy next June.

Why watch if you already know the outcome??

What was the most exciting story from Thursday?? Tell me all about it in the comment section below.

Who Ya Gonna Call?? No, not Johnny Damon. Call the Ghostbusters.

Something big is happening in New York.  It’s not what you’d expect, and personally I’m terrified.  New York used to be the example of greatness.  We used to be the place that all others tried to model themselves after, but now we are the example of mediocrity.  Don’t believe me?  Okay, I’ll prove it.  The Islanders are one of the worst hockey teams in the world, the Jets are well the Jets (enough said), the Knicks are having a nice year, but they’re not winning any titles, and the Yankees are not the Yankees of the ’90’s anymore.  As sad as this is to say (I love the Yankees), the Yankees are not that good.  When Johnny Damon is the answer to your prayers, you know you’re in trouble.  For those of you who don’t know, Curtis Granderson broke his arm yesterday, causing mass hysteria here in New York.  Some of the media outlets here are suggesting that the Yankees sign free agent Johnny Damon to help fill the void.  A thought like that makes me wonder what really goes through peoples minds.  Do people enjoy living in the past?  Do they really think that veteran’s will bring intangibles to the team that the youngsters can’t?  Who in their right mind would think that the Yankees resigning Johnny Damon would be a good idea?  Everyone wants to talk about how old the Knicks are, but those same people obviously haven’t taken the time to look at the Yankees roster.  Let me run down the list of some of their ancient artifacts.  The Yankees have a 37 year old A-Rod who is probably not going to play this year or ever again, a 38 year old Derek Jeter who is recovering from a broken ankle, a 38 year old Hiroki Kuroda on the mound, a 39 year old Ichiro, a 40 year old Andy Pettite, and a 43 year old Mariano Rivera coming off major surgery.  Mark Teixeira (32) and Kevin Youkilis (33) are no spring chickens either.  With all the talk surrounding Robinson Cano’s contract negotiations (which are a year away), and Granderson going down, the Yankees season is already in disarray and it hasn’t even started.  Man, I’m really glad Steinbrenner made all of those off-season acquisitions this year.  Oh, yeah that’s right, they didn’t make any moves whatsoever.  Good idea Hal.  Quick side note: I’ve always said that the death of George Steinbrenner was the worst thing to ever happen to this franchise.  Clearly not everything runs in the family, because his kids have no clue how to run the most successful sports franchise in the world.  Anyway, with an aging roster and below average pitching staff, you’d think that the Yankees would have made a flurry of big moves to bring in some young talent during the off-season.  Instead, they let Russell Martin walk leaving the Yankees with literally no catcher.  They let Nick Swisher and Raul Ibanez walk as well.  They also decided not to negotiate with Rafael Soriano due to the devil’s (I mean Scott Boras’) demands.  Hey Hal, do you know why the Yankees won 4 World Series in 5 years in the late 90’s and early 2000’s?  I didn’t think so.  It’s because you had a transition from a great closer (John Wetteland) to another GREAT closer (Mariano Rivera).  As much as I love Big Mo this is clearly going to be his last season, and great closers don’t exactly grow on trees.  But hey, I guess little Steinbrenner wants us to be excited about the signing of Travis Hafner.  Newsflash, the long ball doesn’t win Championships by itself (Exhibit A: last season)!!  Without any substantial additions to the Yankees roster as it is presently constructed, they will finish in 3rd place in the American League East and MISS the playoffs.  They need a pleasant surprise from someone already on the roster, a big trade, or they need find some talent from their Farm system to compete this year.  Otherwise, I think they are in big trouble.  Nobody loves the Yankees more than me, I am just calling it like I see it.

As for the Granderson situation, I have a solution that they should have been trying for about two years now.  Move Eduardo Nunez to the outfield.  Nunez has blazing speed but has not proven to be a consistent enough fielder at shortstop.  He makes far too many errors from one of the most important positions on the field.  If you keep Brett Gardner and Nunez in the order at the same time you will put speed on the base paths and be able to play small ball (a recipe for success that I’ve been begging for for years now).  And hey, if it doesn’t work you can always slide Nunez right back into his utility role.  It’s not like he’s ever had a set position and you would somehow be disrupting his rhythm by moving him to the outfield.

With Spring Training upon us, we are entering the best time of the year.  March Madness is on it’s way as is beautiful Spring weather.  Undoubtedly, the best part of the year is the start of Baseball season.  Stay tuned for my full preview of the Major League Baseball season including division winners, playoff and world series predictions, and player projections.
