Bad New York, Bad!!

It was a forgettable weekend in New York.

The New York Mets’ losing ways CONTINUED, and the New York Yankees started a losing streak of their own.

Did one of the Mets’ disappointments sneeze on a Yankee?!

‘The Amazin’s’

The Mets continue to outdo themselves. I guess if you’re going to lose everyday, it would behoove you to find new and inventive ways to land in the loss column. Sunday afternoon was certainly new. The Mets gave up SEVEN SOLO HOME RUNS!!!! First of all, how is that even possible?? Second of all, how is that even possible?!

When the game started with back-to-back home runs by Enrique Hernandez and Max Muncy (who’s turning into a star by the way), the Metropolitans should have known it was going to be a long afternoon. Solo shots in the 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 11th innings would cap off a heart breaking 8-7 loss.

Check out all seven homers, including former Met, Justin Turner’s, decisive 11th inning blast:

Turner, ironically had the day off Sunday, but was brought off the bench in the 8th inning, only to put his former team out of their misery. The Mets have now lost six games in a row, and 13-of-14 at Citi Field. And to add insult to injury (literally), the Mets’ one bright spot this season, Brandon Nimmo, left the game in the 7th inning with a hand injury. Nimmo will have an MRI Monday on his right pinky finger, and the Mets are optimistic he’ll avoid a stint on the disabled list.

The Yankees Do Their Best Mets Impersonation

yankees swept by rays

ONE MONTH.

It had been exactly one month since the Yankees lost consecutive games — and a series. Apparently, the 22nd and 23rd of the month are bad luck for the Yankees. They also went on to lose Sunday (7-6), marking their 1st three-game losing streak of the season. And to overuse the term adding insult to injury, the Yankees have seemingly lost Gary Sanchez to the disabled list as well. Sanchez strained his groin trying to beat out a double-play in the 10th inning.

Allow me stop Yankee fans from reaching for the panic button — again.

The Yankees are 50-25 on the season. And despite losing three games in a row, they still have the BEST RECORD IN MLB!! They’ll be fine.

Throughout a 162-game MLB season, teams will have offensive droughts. Players will get injured. And teams will doubt their general direction. The Yankees should do no such thing. Outside of (possibly) acquiring a good starting pitcher before the trade deadline, the Yankees should stand pat, and enjoy their winning ways.

Plus, nothing helps a struggling offense more than playing in Citizens Bank Park.

Are you a panicking Yankee fan?? Slap yourself in the face, and then explain yourself in the comment section below.

I’m So Confused!!!!

I’m sorry, can you please repeat that??

No, I heard you, I just don’t understand….

Sports have never been complicated. Most things are easy to understand. But today, I am legitimately confused:

Win A Championship And….Quit?!

barry trotz

Barry Trotz, head coach of the Washington Capitals, won the Stanley Cup on June 7th. And resigned as head coach of the Washington Capitals on June 18th.

ron burgundy

No Ron Burgundy, that doesn’t make sense.

Trotz spent four years as the head coach of the Capitals. During his tenure, the Capitals had the best record in the NHL (205-89-34). And Monday, just 11 days after bringing the Capitals their 1st Stanley Cup in franchise history, Trotz said this:

“After careful consideration and consultation with my family, I am officially announcing my resignation as the head coach of the Washington Capitals.”

It appears this was a dispute over what else; money. Trotz made $1.5 million last season, less than 25% of the highest paid coaches in the NHL. Trotz probably feels disrespected, as he feels he deserves an extension and a sizable raise. While there was an extension clause written into his contract, if they won the Stanley Cup, the raise allegedly wasn’t walking ‘hand-in-hand’ with the extension.

Which means Barry Trotz will be the next head coach of the New York Islanders — hopefully.

Win THREE Championships….And QUIT?!?!

Zinedine-Zidane-goodbye-to-Real-Madrid-came-as-surprise-1000x600

Zinedine Zidane shocked the world when he left Real Madrid just five days after winning his 3rd consecutive Champions League championship. Zidane is creating a pattern here:

“I want to end with Real Madrid when everything is going well,” he concluded. “I did it as a player, and now again as a coach. This the right moment to end things well.”

Great players often go out on a high note. Barry Sanders retired immediately following a nearly 1,500 yard rushing season (1,491 yards). Jim Brown led the NFL in rushing in his final season (1,544 yards). But this isn’t often a move for great coaches. Zidane, just 45 years old, seemed to have a bright coaching future ahead of him. Instead, he’ll be….actually, I have absolutely no idea what he’ll be doing.

The Mets Scored A Run?!?!

surprise

The New York Mets applied to have their logo permanently placed next to the word anemic in the dictionary. They may have to rescind their application.

After scoring just 21 runs in their previous 13 games (1-12 record), the Mets have now scored 22 runs in their past 3 games (3-0 record). That’s hard to explain. Their latest offensive outburst came in the form of a 12-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies Monday night. Because nothing cures a putrid offense like some Colorado air.

Brandon Nimmo’s 4-for-6 performance, with 2 home runs, and 4 rbi didn’t hurt either. One of those home runs was of the inside the park variety:

The Mets may revert back to their hapless ways real soon, but you HAVE to respect Brandon Nimmo’s hustle!!

Can you explain any of the above?? Good luck….

Still Think It Can’t Get Any Worse?!

This HAS to be rock bottom!!

Just when we think things can’t get any worse for the New York Mets, they find new and exciting ways to screw up. They took failure to a whole new level Wednesday afternoon.

That’s Some Little League Stuff Right There

Despite the Mets’ recent struggles, they seemed poised to turn things around. They shipped Matt Harvey out of town, hoping to boost the morale of the club (plus he sucks). And they had the fortune of playing the WORST team in MLB, the Cincinnati Reds. A series win was a certainty, right?! WRONG!! The Mets lost 2-out-of-3 to the last place Reds in the most epic way imaginable. 2-1 F/10.

Picture This: Brandon Nimmo led off the game, watching three straight fastballs go by for a three-pitch strikeout. Wilmer Flores followed with a strikeout of his own. Asdrubal Cabrera then hit a flare down the left field line that landed in play and bounced into the stands for a ground-rule double. Jay Bruce, the next batter, was promptly called out, ending the inning.

Jay Bruce

Wait, what?!

Called out for what????

THE METS BATTED OUT OF ORDER!!!!

Bruce was called out without stepping into the batter’s box. See, the original lineup card had Asdrubal Cabrera batting 2nd, and Wilmer Flores 3rd. Pretty simple. Home plate umpire, Gabe Morales, officially ruled it 2-unassisted, also striking Cabrera’s double from the record.

Rally over. Inning over. Game over.

mickey callaway

Tell me it doesn’t look like Mickey Callaway is being reprimanded by that umpire.

First year manager, Mickey Callaway, has repeatedly looked overwhelmed this season. He should crawl into a hole and stay there.

Or, maybe owners and general managers should rethink this whole hire inexperienced, sabermetric, yes-men thing….

On To The Next One

cavsceltics

The NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals will be a re-run from last year.

So will the NBA Finals.

Same show, different characters. Isaiah Thomas was pushed down an elevator shaft. Kyrie Irving switched to the dark side, but karma got him as he tried to hop the fence. Gordon Hayward joined the Green Jerks too, but only lasted five minutes before getting hit by a car. Instead, the Celtics have relied on a pile of young, hip actors, trying to play the part of hero in their first season. So far, so good. Ratings are up.

The problem though, for these young “punks”, they’re about to run into THE MAN. The lead actor everyone fears, but at the same time loves. You know him as the Denzel “I’m the motherbleepin’ man” Washington character. THAT MAN is LeBron James. And he’s about to teach these youngins a thing or two. “Old Man” LeBron still has a lot of tread on those tires, and is about to gun it into his eighth consecutive NBA Finals.

Series Prediction: LeBrons in six. Book it!!

Catch ‘Episode One’ on Mother’s Day @ 3:30 P.M. EST on ABC. Because nothing says Happy Mother’s Day like watching basketball for three hours….
