Still Think It Can’t Get Any Worse?!

This HAS to be rock bottom!!

Just when we think things can’t get any worse for the New York Mets, they find new and exciting ways to screw up. They took failure to a whole new level Wednesday afternoon.

That’s Some Little League Stuff Right There

Despite the Mets’ recent struggles, they seemed poised to turn things around. They shipped Matt Harvey out of town, hoping to boost the morale of the club (plus he sucks). And they had the fortune of playing the WORST team in MLB, the Cincinnati Reds. A series win was a certainty, right?! WRONG!! The Mets lost 2-out-of-3 to the last place Reds in the most epic way imaginable. 2-1 F/10.

Picture This: Brandon Nimmo led off the game, watching three straight fastballs go by for a three-pitch strikeout. Wilmer Flores followed with a strikeout of his own. Asdrubal Cabrera then hit a flare down the left field line that landed in play and bounced into the stands for a ground-rule double. Jay Bruce, the next batter, was promptly called out, ending the inning.

Jay Bruce

Wait, what?!

Called out for what????

THE METS BATTED OUT OF ORDER!!!!

Bruce was called out without stepping into the batter’s box. See, the original lineup card had Asdrubal Cabrera batting 2nd, and Wilmer Flores 3rd. Pretty simple. Home plate umpire, Gabe Morales, officially ruled it 2-unassisted, also striking Cabrera’s double from the record.

Rally over. Inning over. Game over.

mickey callaway

Tell me it doesn’t look like Mickey Callaway is being reprimanded by that umpire.

First year manager, Mickey Callaway, has repeatedly looked overwhelmed this season. He should crawl into a hole and stay there.

Or, maybe owners and general managers should rethink this whole hire inexperienced, sabermetric, yes-men thing….

On To The Next One

cavsceltics

The NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals will be a re-run from last year.

So will the NBA Finals.

Same show, different characters. Isaiah Thomas was pushed down an elevator shaft. Kyrie Irving switched to the dark side, but karma got him as he tried to hop the fence. Gordon Hayward joined the Green Jerks too, but only lasted five minutes before getting hit by a car. Instead, the Celtics have relied on a pile of young, hip actors, trying to play the part of hero in their first season. So far, so good. Ratings are up.

The problem though, for these young “punks”, they’re about to run into THE MAN. The lead actor everyone fears, but at the same time loves. You know him as the Denzel “I’m the motherbleepin’ man” Washington character. THAT MAN is LeBron James. And he’s about to teach these youngins a thing or two. “Old Man” LeBron still has a lot of tread on those tires, and is about to gun it into his eighth consecutive NBA Finals.

Series Prediction: LeBrons in six. Book it!!

The Mets Did Something….Smart????

Today marks an exciting day in Major League Baseball. Between now and 4:00 p.m. EST, MLB teams can freely trade players. This is the deadline when teams must decide if they are buyers, sellers, or Sweden. And every so often, a MLB team throws you a curveball. See what I did there?? The New York Mets have taken an interesting approach to the MLB Trade Deadline. Last night, they caused the baseball world to scratch their heads, as they traded FOR AJ Ramos, formerly of the Miami Marlins.

Why is this odd?? This is puzzling because the Mets are sellers in this year’s trade market. So buying a closer is, on the surface, a head-scratcher. However, for the first time in New York Mets history, there is another layer beneath the surface. Mind = Blown!! Just moments ago, the Mets traded Addison Reed (their former closer). This, while expected for weeks, is now smarter than it appears.

Let’s lay this out like a Math problem. Ugghhhh, but Dave, I hate Math. I know, but here at DaveTalksSports, I make you love Math. Well, here goes nothing Math Wiz’s:

3 prospects > 2 prospects.

and

Closer under contract > Closer about to be Free Agent.

That’s right. In the past 24 hours, the Mets were able to make 2 trades, when added together, brings a sum of a positive number.

Allow me to explain this, in English, for all those reading this and saying, “I still don’t get it.”

The Mets received 3 prospects in return for Addison Reed (an expiring contract). And the Mets gave away 2 prospects for AJ Ramos (1-year remaining under contract). Plus, AJ Ramos is a lot better than Addison Reed. So, the Mets actually did something, albeit unconventional, SMART!!

Nice work Sandy Alderson. Now, if you can only trade Jay Bruce, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Curtis Granderson in the next 4 hours, you’ll be the General Manager of the Year. Good luck.

What do you think of the New York Mets trades in the past 24 hours?? Who else do you think they’ll trade before the 4 p.m. deadline??

Mets Continue Inexplicable Inactivity

mets

The New York Mets have no clue what they’re doing. They don’t know how to win. They don’t know how to lose. And they certainly don’t know how to trade. Mets’ fans everywhere have been patiently waiting for their team to come to their senses. With the multitude of injuries and poor performance they have put forth this season, it is obvious they must become sellers. So, what the hell are they waiting for?? A formal invitation?? Well consider this a formal invitation from DaveTalksSports to trade everything and everybody that’s not bolted down.

But Dave, they’ve won 6 of their last 7 games. Maybe they can…..

Allow me to interrupt the delusional Mets’ fan. Maybe they can what?? Make the playoffs?!?! Yeah, no. They’re not going to make up a 9-game deficit over the next 2 months. Now that we got that out of the way, here’s what they should do:

Every expiring contract, and every player not part of the Mets’ 5-year plan should be traded before this year’s deadline (Monday, July 31st at 4:00 p.m.). Here’s a list of those players:

  • Jay Bruce
  • Lucas Duda
  • Curtis Granderson
  • Neil Walker
  • Addison Reed
  • Asdrubal Cabrera

Outside of Granderson, everyone on this list is having a decent season. And Jay Bruce is having a fantastic season (25 hr’s and 67 rbi’s). There are plenty of teams that could use these players’ services for the rest of the year. Restocking the farm system wouldn’t be the worst idea the Mets ever had. So, again, what’s the hold up?? Are teams inquiring and the Mets are saying no thanks??

Dave’s confused.

I have a newsflash (this is actually common knowledge) for the Mets. The closer you get to the trade deadline, the harder it is to move these players.

  1. Other teams will have filled their needs already via trades elsewhere.

and

2.  Leverage flies out the window.

So, one last time, WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR?!?!

Trade the outfielder, trade the first baseman, trade the mascot, or trade the coach for all I care. Just trade someone!! I’m not even a Mets’ fan, and I’m pissed off. I can only imagine what actual Mets’ fans are going through right now….

As a Mets’ fan, how do you feel about the team’s inactivity in the trade market?? What does everyone else think?? Tell me in the comment section below.
